10,000 Lunches Served in July!

With all of our sites up and running we handed out more than

10,000 lunches in July ... 19% more than last year!

And lunches are so central to who we are and what we do,

we even had a few reusable bags made to give away!

Now Our 10th Summer Is Drawing to a Close

Our recreation program partners in Orleans, Brewster (Eddy Elementary) and Eastham said goodbye to their children a week ago.  Those in Chatham, Brewster (Stony Brook Elementary), Wellfleet and Truro finished up just this past Friday.  And last, but not least, carrying through our last week are the recreation programs in Harwich, Provincetown, and Truro Library.

What great partners they all are!

Thank You!

From the children of Orleans

We not only feed hungry bodies,

we feed hungry minds every summer

This summer F4K provided 2,400 free books to our sites to give away.

It is by far the most popular part of our program!

And this year we were able to give away even more books because ...

F4K was one of the beneficiaries of The Monomoy Early Childhood Council's book drive in May/June for Chatham and Harwich children.  Participating stores were Yellow Umbrella and Where the Sidewalk Ends in Chatham and Reed Books and Below the Brine Bookstore in Harwich Port.

Brewster Ladies' Library and the Brewster Ladies' Library Association started donating books to our program in 2020. At that time the library was very limited in what they could offer the community. Due to COVID, all their programs were digital - so coupling free lunch with free books seemed a good way to get more books into kid's hands. And they have been book contributors ever since!

Healthy School Meals for All … in Massachusetts

Massachusetts students will continue to receive free school meals this year. On July 28, 2022, Governor Charlie Baker signed the fiscal year 2023 budget. It includes a one-year extension of the pandemic-era program under which all children, regardless of household income, received free school lunch and breakfast.  We are fortunate in this state to have a legislature concerned about the wellbeing of our children … all our children. Massachusetts is only the fifth state to step up! Not all states have accepted this responsibility to their children.

After a 2 year absence

due to COVID,

F4K once again

provided free plays

to our sites in August!

Through our partnership with the Harwich Junior Players, the young actors get to perform to enthusiastic audiences and our sites can offer some added variety to their summer activities. A win-win for everyone!
