Important Information from Serra High School
Dear Serra Parents and Guardians,

Thank you for a successful first week of hybrid teaching and learning at Serra. Overall, our planning and preparation created a culture and climate of calmness at school. As we venture into our second full week of upper division hybrid learning, we will continue to lean into best practices for teaching, physical distancing protocols between classes, lunchtime and after-school athletic conditioning.

Today, California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced that San Mateo County has moved back to the Red Tier. This change does not affect Serra's reopening plans. Our reopening plans continue to meet the County Pandemic Recovery Framework as outlined in our application. Also announced today by the California Department of Public Health is that the release of updated youth sports guidance has been postponed. Therefore the current guidance remains in effect, and the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) competitions are not allowed until new guidance is provided. As more information is available we will share those updates with our Padres.

We have received a number of questions regarding the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday.
We are continuing our preparations for our lower division students to attend school in person starting December 7. In an effort to maintain the safest environment at Serra, we ask that our Padres self quarantine for 14 days should families decide to engage in activities that are defined as high risk, which include gathering outside your normal household cohort, large gatherings, and situations where you are not wearing a mask. Our goal is to maintain the integrity of our blue and gold cohorts for lower division students by reducing the risk of COVID-19 exposure to individuals who could be getting together. We all need to do our part to ensure the health and safety of the school community.

With inclement weather forecasted for tomorrow, we have made modifications to the B-Day schedule to reduce exposure to the weather during the lunch period. Students are asked to dress appropriately and should be prepared with umbrellas and/or other rain gear.

The B-Day schedule for Tuesday and Friday will be the following:
5th period: 8:15 a.m. -9:30 a.m.
7th period: 9:45 a.m. -11:00 a.m.
6th period: 11:10 a.m. -12:25 p.m.

Announcements will be done via video at the end of 6th period class with dismissal for students at 12:30 p.m. Lunch will not be built into the schedule on these days.

We thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation with these changes. We are constantly making modifications to ensure that we maintain the academic profile and services of the school as well as all aspects of student life.

Sincerely,

Charlie McGrath
