The Public Health Aide provides program support, health screening, and clerical assistance for the WIC Program (Women, Infants and Children). WIC provides nutrition education, breastfeeding education and support, supplemental nutritious foods, and connections to other community services.
Essential functions include providing reception and application services to individuals who walk in or call with questions about agency programs, including screening for income and categorical eligibility and scheduling of appointments. This individual also processes intake of required personal and family information according to program requirements. The Public Health Aide conducts basic health screenings including finger stick and blood testing for iron and lead, height, length, weight, and oral swabs, using a variety of equipment and following universal precautions for blood-borne pathogens.
