This Sunday--Immigration Sunday

Worship Service: 10 am

Coffee Hour: following service

Worship Notes

This week a small group of worship committee members have worked to put together the service in honor of Immigration Sunday. Expect the usual excellent music (and join in making it!), including specials by Ramona Morris and the worship team. We also welcome our very own guest preacher Michael Wood, who often causes us to expect the unexpected!

Participate

The All-Church Picnic is July 9 following the regular Sunday worship service. The Fellowship Committee will provide the burgers, hot dogs, and veggie burgers with all the fixings. The rest is potluck with those whose last name begins with A - M to bring appetizers or salads, and N - Z to bring desserts. Food can be brought to the kitchen before the service. Any help with setup will be appreciated.

Women's Night Out is Monday, July 10, at 6 pm at The Ram. Email marysnethen@gmail.com or phone 503 559 5970 to RSVP.

New Photo Directory project needs help! The Outreach Committee has been working hard on updating the narthex to make it more welcoming. Now we feel it is time to work on updating the directory of our church members and friends. Did you know that the last photo directory was put together in 2015? Don’t you agree that it’s time to have a new one? The committee has been working on how to move forward with this project, and we need help! Our goal is to decide on a format as well as a photographer so that we might have a new directory by fall of 2023. If you are interested in being a part of this project, please contact Katie Nelson, Elder for Outreach, at nelsonkatieallstar@gmail.com, 503-580-5631 or plan to attend the meeting on Wednesday, July 12, at 10 am.

Volunteer Opportunity! Nancy MacMorris-Adix is looking for 3 teams of 2 people each to work one Monday morning a month at the Family Building Blocks food pantry. It takes 1-2 hours, and timing is flexible. The job entails picking up food at the State St. warehouse and delivering it to the Lancaster location. If three teams join Nancy and Bill, it becomes a once-a-month commitment for each! Contact:

Nancymac93@gmail.com, 503-999-8148.

Prayers for

The family of Kay Souter, member of Westminster, who we discovered passed away in September of 2022.

Celebrating with

Nancy Crawford, whose brother Jack McNary underwent a successful surgery and who continue to recover with her help.

**If you would like a written prayer included in Sunday's worship bulletin, please email or call the church office (krisha@salemwestpres.org; 503-364-3327) or fill out the prayer request form on the website by Thursday at 10 am each week.

Give

Support the VBC Mission Project. This is the last Sunday to contribute change (or more) to the beaker at the back of the sanctuary before the money is donated to Ariana House, which helps refugees and asylum seekers; our money from VBC will provide toys for children. Thank you to everyone who has already given!

Greetings Westminster Friends! The American Red Cross is hosting a blood donation drive at Westminster on July 24, 2023. Thank you so much for your life-affirming donations in the past. Please join with other Westminster members and the Salem community by rolling up your sleeves and pitching in! There are still many appointment spots available between 1:15pm and 5:15pm on Monday, July 24, so please give us a call soon to pick your spot.

Folks who have blood types O, A-negative and B-negative are especially needed to give "Power Red" or "Double Red" where one donates two units of red cells and still gets BACK ALL of ones plasma and platelets (plus some saline solution)! You will probably feel more hydrated and often less tired after that donation!

To get scheduled you can use the Red Cross blood donor app on your smartphone (device) or email or call Bill Nelson at bnelson@pacificomm.net or (503) 576-1278, or Pam Garland at (503) 551-2998.

Thank you, and let's keep Westminster the premier (and longest continuously running) church blood donation site in Salem!!

All the best to you,

Bill Nelson and Pam Garland

Deep appreciation to Deanie Anderson, who also has completed her official term as deacon and has graciously agreed to remain an alternate.
