MARY'S ADVENTURES IN PUERTO RICO

My Tuesday was an adventure! I traveled to the Cueva del Indio, where there are caves which include amazing art from the Taino peoples. This may have been the definition of Mary biting off more than she could chew lol.

First, a short hike across spiky rocks in the blazing sun. Then, arriving at the cave and tackling a significantly strenuous and unnerving climb up to and into the cave.

My super helpful guide Jean Louis said that I might be his oldest visitor to make it inside. I returned to San Juan with scraped up knees, a seriously achy shoulder, a giant blister...

But LOOK what I got to see!

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY

Although it is not a religious holiday like Christmas or Easter, for many Americans July 4th is a time to reflect on God’s goodness to us as a nation.

Molded into the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia (which proclaimed our independence) are these words from the Bible:

“Proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof” (Leviticus 25:10, KJV).

On this July 4th, may look in faith to the future, and commit it and our lives to God and His will. The ancient words of the Psalmist are still true: “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord” (Psalm 33:12).

The Fourth of July has been a federal holiday in the United States since 1941, but the tradition of Independence Day celebrations goes back to the 18th century and the American Revolution. On July 2nd, 1776, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence, and two days later delegates from the 13 colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence, a historic document drafted by Thomas Jefferson. From 1776 to the present day, July 4th has been celebrated as the birth of American independence, with festivities ranging from fireworks, parades and concerts to more casual family gatherings and barbecues.

CREATION CARE CELEBRATES

PLASTIC FREE JULY

This month is celebrated as Plastic Free July. An abundance of plastic has accumulated in our oceans and other areas where it does not belong negatively impacting wildlife, the earth, water, and humans.

I invite you to spend some time this month reflecting on ways you can use less single-use plastic items such as straws, plastic grocery bags, and coffee cups.
