Georgetown District High School Students Weigh in on Affordable Housing in Halton Hills
In January, Halton Hills’ Affordable Housing Working Group, comprised of residents, the Mayor, Council members and staff, reached out to Georgetown District High School (GDHS) students to find out what affordable housing means to them.

Looking for a fresh perspective on the redevelopment of 17 Guelph Street, the former ambulance site located down the street from the high school, GDHS Grade 9 geography classes were asked for their vision of the site following a presentation by Halton Hills staff.
One proposal from each class was presented to the Affordable Housing Working Group for consideration as part of the Town’s Affordable Housing Engagement and Awareness Strategy.

“We really enjoyed the students’ recommendations for creating affordable and accessible housing at the proposed 17 Guelph Street site,” said Halton Hills Mayor and Affordable Housing Working Group member Rick Bonnette. “We will keep their ideas in mind as we move forward knowing that decisions made today will impact their neighbourhood in the future.”

As part of the Town’s engagement strategy theme “What does affordable housing mean to you?”, residents are encouraged to share their stories on Let’s Talk Halton Hills

An affordable housing virtual Open House is scheduled for March 4, 2021.
