NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan Holds Annual Resident Research Day

NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan, one of NYMC's major affiliated clinical sites, held their annual Resident Research Day on May 13, when three residents were chosen to present their research out of a record-setting 48 abstract submissions. The top two presentations covered readmission rates of patients admitted to inpatient psychiatric units treated with first generation versus second generation long-acting antipsychotics and a retrospective cohort study on the absolute lymphocyte count as a predictor of mortality and readmission in heart failure hospitalization. Read the full article on the Resident Research Day.
June is Cataract Awareness Month. The late Charles D. Kelman, M.D., clinical professor of ophthalmology, was awarded the 2004 Albert Lasker Award for Clinical Medical Research for revolutionizing cataract surgery by devising a noninvasive outpatient procedure that replaced an operation that sometimes required a 10-day hospital stay. With a jury making an exception to the rules to allow the award to be given posthumously, Dr. Kelman, who died on June 1, 2004, was the first person to receive the award after death.
