Now that COVID-19 case counts have dropped, we have aligned with the Town to drop the mask mandate for most areas of the building. Please continue to mask in the Children's Room to protect our vulnerable population of unvaccinated youth. While masks throughout the rest of the building are optional at this time, we encourage visitors to follow CDC guidelines, which are to mask regardless of vaccination status.
Eating and drinking is also allowed, in a bring-a-snack way, more than a have-a-pizza-delivered way.
The Library will resume offering programs and meeting room use as follows. All dates are targets and dependent on diminishing COVID-19 case numbers in the Town of Grafton.
Monday February 14
- Meeting room use for small group study, proctoring, tutoring of youth over age 5 (rooms 117, 124, 125, 202, 228, 229) resumes
Monday February 28
- In-person Library-sponsored programs for teens and adults resumes
- Meeting rooms for public use for all ages, including booking 219 and the Community room for gatherings of 10+, resumes
Monday April 4
- In-person Library-sponsored programs for school-age children ages 5 & up resumes
- Computers and wall manipulatives in the Children’s Room
Monday May 2
- In-person Library sponsored programs for children ages 0-4 resumes
Please note the Library is not available for after-hours meeting or Facility Rental at this time as we are still waiting for installation of the gate to close off the Common Level after hours.
I'm excited to bring back the Farmer's Market, Ukulele 101 and other programming so long as numbers remain low. Have a safe and healthy March forward into Spring!

We completed more punch list work in February: lighting tweaks, carpet tile repair. The donor clock was installed in our New Book Room. Additional barcode scanners were installed to the materials return, but a computer failed, so one intake has been out of order. Please return materials outside whenever possible. The Donor Wall was installed and will be unveiled at a date to be determined; we are still waiting for additional signage.
Check out construction photos in our Construction album on our Facebook Page!

Song of a Captive Bird by Jasmin Darznik
A spellbinding debut novel about the trailblazing Iranian poet Forugh Farrokhzad, who defied society's expectations to find her voice and her destiny. "Remember the flight, for the bird is mortal." All through her childhood in Tehran, Forugh Farrokhzad is told that Persian daughters should be quiet and modest. She is taught only to obey, but she always finds ways to rebel, gossiping with her sister among the fragrant roses of her mother's walled garden, venturing to the forbidden rooftop to roughhouse with her three brothers, writing poems to impress her strict, disapproving father, and sneaking out to flirt with a teenage paramour over café

glacé. During the summer of 1950, Forugh's passion for poetry takes flight, and tradition seeks to clip her wings. Forced into a suffocating marriage, Forugh runs away and falls into an affair that fuels her desire to write and to achieve freedom and independence. Forugh's poems are considered both scandalous and brilliant; she is heralded by some as a national treasure, vilified by others as a demon influenced by the West. She perseveres, finding love with a notorious filmmaker and living by her own rules, at enormous cost. But the power of her writing only grows stronger amid the upheaval of the Iranian revolution. Inspired by Forugh Farrokhzad's verse, letters, films, and interviews, and including original translations of her poems, this haunting novel uses the lens of fiction to capture the tenacity, spirit, and conflicting desires of a brave woman who represents the birth of feminism in Iran, and who continues to inspire generations of women around the world."

BLACKSTONE VALLEY LIBRARIES
MUSEUM PASSES
|
|
If Grafton Public Library does not have a museum pass available on the day you would like to go, check the Blackstone Valley Libraries network.
The libraries of the Blackstone Valley collaboratively offer passes to cultural
and educational sites throughout the area and beyond. Every resident of a participating town with a valid C/WMARS library card has access to the passes at these participating libraries.
Here’s how it works:
Pick up the pass you want at its owning library the day you plan on using it. Enjoy your trip!
If required, return the pass to the library where you picked it up the day after you use it or the next day the library is open. Passes must be returned in person at the library’s circulation desk--please do not drop your pass in a book return!
