Foundation of Friends
“A library is infinity under a roof.” - Gail Carson Levine
As a child, I wondered how big is infinity. I asked myself the usual questions. Is it the number of grains of sand on a beach? No, bigger. The vastness of space? Maybe. The largest number I could imagine? No. You can always add one to the biggest number you can think of, right?
That is the power of our local library resources in our community.
Vast, far reaching, and you can always add one more thing you can learn that you never knew.
If you want to learn something new or want to help someone else learn something to expand their horizons, consider visiting, donating or volunteering to help us expand our library and ensure it is a sustainable community resource.
-Marty Gephart
IVPL Foundation of Friends board member
The Foundation of Friends is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to offer financial assistance to the library with the goal of providing the people of Indian Valley with an outstanding library now and into the future. We work alongside the Indian Valley Public Library Board of Trustees and library staff. You may become a member here. We hope you consider joining and help us in building a library our community will benefit from for generations to come.
Millions of adults live with one or more chronic health conditions. Our program will help people and their caregivers manage their symptoms, improve their quality of life, and reduce healthcare costs.
Participants make weekly action plans, share experiences, and help each other solve problems they encounter in creating and carrying out their self-management program.

2021-2022 Annual Appeal
On Saturday February 12th I was a part of a working breakfast with the FOF and IVPL board members. This workshop entailed a series of exercises and conversations that will help shape the future of the Indian Valley Public Library. It was very reassuring to see just how much leadership cares about this library and community.
But this is just a part of the equation. Your support and involvement are key to this library's success. I ask you to consider supporting this year's annual fund campaign. Every gift - no matter the amount - directly supports the day-to-day operations of the library. Your support allows us to continue to bring you the services, programs, and resources that this library has provided to the community for years. Help us secure IVPL's future.
Please feel to contact me if you have any questions about supporting the library. I am happy to assist in any way that I can.

Podcasting is a powerful way to communicate stories, news reports and information. In order to create an effective podcast, students need to learn how to make their stories engaging and use sound to put their listeners into the aural environment of their story. They can accomplish this through music, sound effects or sounds gathered from the environment of their story.
This workshop plan familiarizes students with podcasting software, such as Anchor, Audacity, or Garageband, followed by creating a simple, personal podcast recording.
Students will need access to a computer and the internet. Students must download Audacity and WebEx prior to the event.
We will start off the meeting with a reading of We Planted a Tree by Mya Diane Muldrow. We will discuss the similarities and differences between the graphic novel and the book.
Participants in this event will be entered in a raffle to win a family pass to Longwood Gardens.

Redwood Tree Ecology Program
Tuesday, March 8th — 7:00-8:00 PM
Virtual
California Coastal Redwoods, Sequoia Sempervirens, are one of the tallest trees in the world, ranging up to 350 feet high. Not only do they have a rich understory full of ferns, shrubs and fungus, their canopy has an entire profile of lichens, moss and bryophytes with salamanders who never touch the ground. Park Ranger Julie Clark will be presenting a power point on redwood ecology, their connection to their local marine environment, and their unique habitat for wildlife such as the threatened and endangered seabird, the Marbled Murrelet.
A Message from Longwood Gardens: This year we join local libraries and community partners for the ninth year of the Longwood Gardens’ Community Reads – a program designed to encourage reading for pleasure and start a conversation. In 2022, we ask readers to "explore the concept of trees as nature’s great connectors. What would a tree tell us if we just took the time to listen? Trees represent growth, peace, and nature while teaching us how to plant deep roots and reach for the sky. They also may help us gain insight into ourselves and our place in the world."
