The Lake Current - May 2023
Welcome to the May 2023 edition of our Council newsletter!

A few quick but important items up-front before we get into the news.

  • Our next regular business meeting will be this Wednesday, May 10th, starting at 7:30 p.m. Dinner for $5 will be at 6:30, as usual. All members are welcome. We will be discussing elections for Council officers and Corporation directors (see report of the Council nominating committee below). Also, please turn in your order form and payment for Council Wear. We will be placing the order after this meeting. (See the order form below for details.) With so many activities to plan for and important business news to share with the membership, all members should attend!

  • Our Home Corporation, 6318 Associates Inc., is looking for a Rentals Chairman and additional bartenders. The Rentals Chairman coordinates with members wishing to rent our Council Hall. Additional bartenders are needed to help keep our Lounge open to serve the members and their guests. If you are interested in either position, please contact Corporation President Mike Tomassi or Vice President Anthony Falco.

  • We are hosting an Admission Degree on Friday, May 12th, at 7 p.m. This is Supreme's new "Exemplification of Charity, Unity and Fraternity," by which participants become Third Degree members of our Order. If you know of a Catholic gentleman wishing to join our Council, or if you are a First or Second Degree member wishing to attain full Knighthood, please speak with Chancellor Richard Kreps or WGK Tim McDonald. All members are encouraged to attend in support of our newest members.

  • Our Lounge's "Draft Beer of the Month" for May is Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy! This is a traditional weiss beer with refreshing natural lemonade flavor that makes it the perfect summer beer. Summer Shandy won a Silver medal at the 2012 Great American Beer Festival in the Fruit Wheat Beer category. So ask for a Leine (say "line") and give it a try!

Fourth Degree News

MEETING NOTICE

The next meeting of Mother Cabrini Assembly will be Thursday, May 18th, at our Council. The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. All Fourth Degree Sir Knights are welcome and encouraged to attend.

  • Let Us Know How You're Doing! Our Council has traditionally had one or more members tasked to gather news about our members who may be sick or experiencing difficulties or life changes of one kind or another. Our Council officers want to make sure that no member ever "falls through the cracks" and goes unnoticed when they could use our support and prayers the most. PGK Mike McDonald has volunteered to be our Council's point of contact for member news, which he will share with the Grand Knight and other officers and members, as appropriate. Please email Mike or call him at (845) 629-4651 if you know of any members, or family of members, who are sick or in distress, who have recently passed away, or who are in need of our help in any way.

  • May 20th (Sat): Kitchen Cleanup - We will be giving our kitchen and BBQs area a deep cleaning starting at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 20th. Fish Fry and all of the other events we cater in-house eventually take their toll, and we'll be getting everything back into top shape and ready for the summer BBQ season. There is a lot to do both up in the kitchen and out on our patio, so please volunteer some time if you're able to do so. Many hands make light work!

  • Jun. 11 (Sun): Ladies Appreciation Brunch - We can use some help in the kitchen and with serving brunch to the Ladies Auxiliary on Sunday, June 11th. This year, instead of our annual dinner to show the Council's appreciation for all they do, the Ladies have requested a brunch at 1 p.m., and we're happy to oblige. Speak with GK Tim or PGK Rob Firriolo if you're interested in helping.
Remember, a full calendar of events can always be found on our website: carmelknights.org under the Upcoming Events tab. And don't forget to "like" our Facebook page for up-to-the minute announcements, photos, event listings, and items of interest.
