Ushering in a New Presidential Administration
The Biden-Harris administration hit the ground running with a spate of orders and actions rolling back harmful policies from the past four years and taking important steps towards realizing LGBTQ equality, addressing racial injustice, and confronting the pandemic. Already, President Biden issued an executive order prohibiting the federal government from discriminating against workers on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity, took a number of actions to address systemic racism, and reversed a ban on transgender people serving in the military, to name just a few. In this issue of Q Notes, find a special resource section with news out of the White House and highlights of movement response to the incoming administration. Stay tuned for upcoming programming for grantmakers to make sense of the new federal policy landscape and ways for funders to continue to fuel movements for justice in the Biden era.

  • Funders for LGBTQ Issues staff closed out 2020 with our annual Holiday Party in late December. This year’s virtual event featured astrological readings, drag performances, and stories.
  • Following the horrific events that unfolded at the U.S. Capitol on January 6th, Funders for LGBTQ Issues released a statement calling on philanthropy to refuse to normalize the egregious attack and continue with business as usual. In the days following, we also monitored and amplified statements from our members, movement organizations, and other philanthropic leaders on Twitter using the hashtag #LGBTQFundersRespond.
  • We were thrilled to welcome the 44th GUTC Pledge signatory! Thanks to The National Performance Network (NPN) for making this commitment to trans, GNC, and nonbinary communities!
