Aliso Canyon Community,
We hope this email finds you healthy and safe at home. We recognize that Aliso Canyon, a community all too familiar with disaster, is being challenged once again with extraordinary circumstances. As we collectively battle COVID-19, please know that your patience and perseverance is appreciated. While COVID-19 response and recovery efforts have been and continue to be an all-consuming challenge for our Department, we are committed to moving the Aliso Canyon Disaster Health Research Study forward into the implementation phase. We are sharing some key updates on how to stay involved, the Scientific Oversight Committee, an updated website, and all upcoming Community Advisory Group (CAG) meetings.

We Want to Hear From You - Online Engagement Moving Forward
Your experiences and feedback are important to us and to the Scientific Oversight Committee that will be overseeing the Study development. We have been working closely with the Community Advisory Group to identify virtual ways to connect with community members, while still maintaining the physical distancing that’s required. This may include online events, such as a virtual Town Hall meeting. We are working in collaboration with the Community Advisory Group to conduct a community survey that will help us learn what online tools you are currently using, and gauge interest in online engagement related to the Aliso Canyon Disaster Health Research Study.

Scientific Oversight Committee Nomination
In collaboration with the Community Advisory Group, we have selected an esteemed roster of nationwide leading experts who will serve on a volunteer basis and lend their expertise to oversee the Study. The Committee includes representatives of seven local, state and federal agencies, along with nine independent expert members who provide an extraordinary and crucial resource and a range of expertise, prioritized with major input from the Community Advisory Group.

T
hank you to the Community Advisory Group for working tirelessly to advance this effort and contribute to the selection process. Though our timeline has shifted as a result of COVID-19, we will ensure health study scoping activities continue as planned through virtual formats to begin the research solicitation process.

To allow additional opportunities to collaborate and share information, we would like to extend an invite to the Community Advisory Group meetings, which are held regularly on Zoom at the end of every month. As the CAG continues to play an invaluable role in the involvement of the Health Research Study, members of the public are encouraged to attend and provide public comment. For those unable to participate, we will continue to provide the meeting agenda, summary, and materials readily available on our webpage. Thank you all for your patience and understanding as we aim to be broadly representative of all communities impacted by the Aliso Canyon Disaster.
