Local Election Results


The City of Garland held a general election May 6 to elect a Mayor and City Council members for Districts 3, 6, 7 and 8. Visit our Elections page to view the results.  


The election results will be certified at the regular meeting of the Garland City Council on Tuesday, May 16.

Public Service Recognition Week May 7-13


PSRW has been celebrated since 1985 as a nationwide public education campaign honoring the men and women who serve as federal, state, county and local government employees.

Central Library Express Now Open

 

The temporary Central Library Express, 713 Austin St., is now open to the public. The former Garland Women's Activities Building will host services while the neighboring Central Library is undergoing renovation.

 

The current site of the Central Library closed for renovation in April. The work is expected to last 12 to 14 months. New technologies will include a video production studio and makerspace equipment. The renovated library will also include new outdoor programming spaces.


During the renovation, make use of the temporary Central Library Express and the City's three branch libraries. Visit Library.GarlandTX.gov.

"Garland and Beyond" Exhibit Now Open


Displays and artifacts on loan from NASA's Johnson Space Center will be on exhibit at Garland City Hall, 200 N. Fifth St., through Sept. 2.


The lobby at City Hall is open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. The exhibit is free.


Enjoy a special Space Date Night Friday, May 12! Earn a mission patch at the exhibit when you visit between 4 and 7 p.m. and get a buy one special space beer at Intrinsic Smokehouse & Brewery. Then head over to the Band Together Concert Series for a free T-shirt and live music by Up the Creek.

GP&L 100 Years of History Exhibit Moves to The Foundry Church

 

From its humble beginnings with one generator purchased with donated funds from the community to becoming the fourth largest municipal utility in the State of Texas, Garland Power & Light has lots to celebrate as it turns 100 years old.

 

Check out the 100 Years of History exhibit and see the history of GP&L through the decades. The exhibit is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays through May 29, at The Foundry Church, 525 W. Avenue A.

 

The exhibit will move to its next home Thursday, June 1. Stay tuned for details!

Band Together on the Square Concert Friday, May 12

 

Downtown Garland has a diverse musical experience that will go great with your carefree summer vibe. Join us every Friday evening through July for one of the best concert series of the summer!

 

Our series continues at 7 p.m. Friday, May 12, at 506 Art (506 Main St.), featuring Up the Creek. Be sure to explore Downtown Garland's fabulous array of eateries and shops before and after the show!

Garland Symphony Orchestra Friday, May 12

 

The Garland Symphony Orchestra continues its exciting "Music that Grows on You" season with pianist Albert Cano Smit at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 12, at the Granville Arts Center, 300 N. Fifth St.

Get the Yuck Out of the Duck Saturday, May 13


Join us for the Second Annual Duck Creek Litter Cleanup from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 13, at Duck Creek Park, 4021 Duck Creek Drive.


We have the same goal at a new location. We are looking for volunteers who don't mind getting a little dirty to get Duck Creek clean. Volunteers are invited to walk along trails, crawl through the creek or bring their kayaks to get as much litter as possible. Learn more.

Garland Downtown Business Association Spring Wine Walk Saturday, May 13


Join us from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 13, in Downtown Garland for wine, live music, shopping and a chance to win Downtown Dollars!

Plaza Movie Classic: "War Room" Sunday, May 14

 

The City of Garland Cultural Arts Department presents a free showing of the 2015 film "War Room" (rated PG) at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 14, at the Plaza Theatre, 521 W. State St.

 

A seemingly perfect family looks to fix their problems with the help of Miss Clara, an older, wiser woman.

 

Admission is free and open to the public. Free parking for all Plaza Theatre events is available at the Central Library, 625 Austin St.

The Garland Plan Commission will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, May 8, at City Hall, 200 N. Fifth St. You can watch the meetings online.

TxDOT Virtual Meeting

Through May 12

The Texas Department of Transportation is proposing to widen Interstate 30 from Ferguson Road in Dallas to Bass Pro Drive in Garland. The state agency will conduct an online virtual public meeting on the proposed project through Friday, May 12. Visit KeepItMovingDallas.com to participate. 


Graduation Traffic Delays

Through June 4

High school and college graduations will take place at the Curtis Culwell Center through Sunday, June 4. Naaman Forest Boulevard will experience traffic congestion during the graduations, so expect traffic delays in the area.
