ONONDAGA COUNTY 1% LOAN PROGRAM
GOES COUNTY-WIDE

Due to popular demand, the Onondaga County 1% Loan & Grant Program is now available to homeowners throughout the county! The super low interest home improvement loan for income-eligible homeowners, also offers a grant of up to $6,000 or 30% of the loan total and can be used for exterior and health/safety repairs like roofs, siding, windows, doors, plumbing and electrical issues and much more.

HHQ CEO Kerry Quaglia Named to Micron Community Engagement Committee
|
|
Governor Kathy Hochul and Micron Technology recently announced the members of the Micron Community Engagement Committee that will support the company’s community investment strategy. Kerry Quaglia, Home HeadQuarters CEO and other local stakeholders were named to the committee to ensure meaningful, ground-up participation in Micron’s historic planned investment. The Committee will work with Micron, Empire State Development, local governments and regional stakeholders to develop a Community Priorities Document – a guiding strategy for investing the Micron Community funding into existing and new opportunities that benefit residents with specific priorities for under-represented communities.

Kariem Hunt has joined Home HeadQuarters in the role of Assistant Controller. Kariem studied accounting at Norwich University and has more than twenty years of experience in the construction and healthcare accounting field. Originally from Queens, Kariem says that he has slowly, but surely, fallen in love with Central New York over the 35-years that he has lived in the Greater Syracuse area. As his first nonprofit position, he sees his role as an opportunity to make a positive impact in the community.

Diana Rios joined the organization as an Administrative Assistant while studying to move into the role of Housing Counselor. Diana is excited to work for the HomeOwnership Center as she understands, first hand, the power of HHQ's first-time HomeBuyer Program because she utilized these very programs while purchasing her own home.
Diana previously worked in the dental field, having obtained her Dental Assistant Certificate at BOCES. She also worked as an English and Spanish customer service representative. Originally from the Bronx, Diana lives in Syracuse with her two children.

Tyler Stewart recently joined the Syracuse Financial Empowerment Center (FEC), working as the newest Financial Counselor. Tyler has a range of professional experience, including customer service experience, time spent working in the health insurance industry, and has even driven for Uber to utilize their tuition benefit, as he plans to take classes online through Arizona State University.
Tyler is originally from Syracuse and attended West Genesee High School. He grew up playing lacrosse and hockey and continues to play hockey in a recreation league. He's excited to get involved with the community and provide financial counseling to people who need it, like he did not so long ago.

Examples of costs that could be addressed with this funding include filing fees, attorney costs or even your bank's attorney fees that would be passed on to you. The Solvay/Geddes 1% Loan Program has reopened just in time for home project weather! This very low interest loan of up to $25,000 can be used for any interior or exterior home improvements. Homeowners must be current on their property taxes and contractors must be properly insured and have up-to-date RRP certification if touching painted surfaces. This program is made possible through Onondaga County

Home HeadQuarters is holding a free, informational workshop that addresses city of Syracuse tax foreclosures on Tuesday, May 23 at 5:30pm, online via Zoom. The workshop provides a timeline of the foreclosure process, an overview of tax trusts, Home HeadQuarters programs and other support services and next steps for property owners in the foreclosure process.
Presenters include representatives from the City of Syracuse Department of Neighborhood and Business Development and Department of Finance, the Syracuse Financial Empowerment Center and HHQ.

Block Blitz #16...And so it Begins
|
|
The Block Blitz, as you may already know, is an annual community event that brings together homeowners, volunteers and other community stakeholders to help repair, landscape, and paint up to 50 homes in a single day, rain or shine, usually in a city of Syracuse neighborhood at no cost to residents. This 16th year, we're hoping to concentrate efforts in the city's Elmwood neighborhood - Creekside on the Southside.

Home HeadQuarters has partnered with BOCES on the renovation of a vacant home on Syracuse's Northside. BOCES Construction Trades program is a comprehensive introduction to residential construction. Skills are taught through classroom instruction, job shadow experiences and internships. The current class has ten students, who will work on the property until July before heading out to their internship placements. These students will help to fill critical voids in the housing construction and rehabilitation industry.
