Superintendent's Friday Update
August 12, 2022
From the Desk of Dr. Smith
What a great couple of weeks the Alta Loma School District has had getting ready for and eventually receiving our students back for another school year. I have enjoyed visiting all of our sites and interacting with as many parents, students and staff as possible. Please mark your calendars because our first “State of the District” event is scheduled for August 17th at Alta Loma Junior High. There are a series of these events scheduled, so don’t feel pressured to attend this one if your schedule is heavy on that day. This first event is intended to serve the west side community, with an August 24th date scheduled at Vineyard Junior High for our east side families. Additionally, there are four other dates that will be announced soon. We hope to see you at one of these events because partnering with our families and broader community is key to our students’ success!

Great Things Have Happened At Our Schools
From Principal Dolly Bentley:
Banyan Elementary is so excited that the 2022-2023 school year has begun! Staff and teachers were very busy preparing the classrooms and school for an amazing year ahead. On Friday, August 5th, we had our Kinder Orientation to welcome our new Bulldogs to school and our Welcome Back Staff BBQ! Let the fun begin!
From Principal Jenny Rice:
Deer Canyon is so happy to kick off our 2022-2023 school year. On Monday, August 8th we invited our TK and Kinder families to campus for a Meet and Greet and a “Tissue Tea.” We were thrilled to welcome our newest Eagle families to campus.

Our 1-6 grade students and their families were welcomed to campus with high fives and hugs from our teachers and admin team. We are excited and ready to begin another fabulous school year. #EaglePride
From Principal Michele Rachielles:
The adventure has begun at Hermosa Elementary School! Teachers and support staff returned to campus to ready themselves and the school for the arrival of our Huskies. High fives and hugs were shared as everyone caught up on summer adventures and anticipations of the new year.

Additionally, many students came to campus to write their goal for the new school year on the Ticket to Adventure! Our Huskies set great goals ranging from academic to social and one goal was even to learn to ride a bike this year! We know our students will reach, grow, and achieve in the 22-23 year!
Some students and families came to campus looking to get acquainted with the first days of school. TK and Kinder families and students came to “Meet and Greet” with the teachers and to check out the classrooms and playground. Students in grades 1-6 were invited in to take a tour and learn some of the amazing things that happen at Hermosa.
From Principal Kristy Johnson:
Kicking off the school year at Victoria Groves started a few days earlier than the first day of school. Our youngest students were invited to visit their classrooms, introduce themselves to their teachers and get familiar with their class materials by participating in a scavenger hunt. First day walk-throughs were exciting too because it is always great to see our smiling students return for another year of learning. Thank you to Dr. Smith for visiting during this time and continuing to introduce herself to staff and parents from the Victoria Groves community.
From Principal Sandy Rose:

We’ve had a fantastic start to the year at Vineyard! Victor the Viking, our administrative team, and ASB students welcomed back our 7th and 8th grade students and families at Schedule Pick-up. Our 7th graders also had the opportunity to join us for Viking Vision. A special thanks goes out to Mrs. Lawrence and Mrs. Saenz for facilitating Viking Vision. Students had fun playing Bingo to get to know classmates, watched a fashion show, went on a scavenger hunt, and took a tour to help orient them to junior high life. #ReadyForAGreatYear!
