Dear Uplift Community,
I hope you and yours are doing well. As I wrote back in March, here at Uplift, the health and safety of our staff, volunteers, and the grieving children and families we serve is our highest priority. To that end, we are continuing to provide virtual programming in all our service lines and plan to do so through the end of 2020. We will continue to monitor the pandemic situation and adjust programming as needed.
We will be meeting virtually with the children and caregivers in our Family Services grief support groups for the remainder of the program year. Family Services clinicians offer personalized support to families, checking in with phone calls, texts, and emails, and we felt it best to finalize longer term plans to make future scheduling easier for everyone. To further ensure ease of access, we have revamped our grief support group schedule to offer a wide variety of days and times when groups are meeting.
With most Philadelphia schools continuing virtual classes, Uplift’s School and Community grief support programs and Post-Crisis Supports also remain virtual. We are heartened by the number of schools whose counselors and teachers are working to enable Uplift to have time with their students in need of grief support, as well as the community groups who are doing the same. With violence in the city continuing to surge, we are receiving far too many calls for Post-Crisis Support for schools and children rocked by students’ deaths. We’re here to make sure everyone who calls receives the help they need.
Thank you for your support that makes all of this work possible. Uplift is glad to be a much-needed resource for kids and families in Philadelphia. Thank you for joining us in this mission.
With Gratitude,

The Philly HopeLine and Meghan Szafran, Uplift Director of School and Community Services, have been selected as one of 35 nationwide winners of the New York Life Foundation's Love Takes Action Awards. Nominated by New York Life employee and Uplift supporter Faith Romolini from the Valley Forge Office, the Love Takes Action Awards celebrate extraordinary community members embodying the value of “agápē,” or Love Taking Action, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Meghan's work in conceiving and establishing the Philly HopeLine, and the HopeLine's impact in supporting Philadelphia students and families with free mental health support during the pandemic, were selected out of a pool of 130 nominees. We congratulate Meghan and thank her, and the entire Uplift team, for their outstanding work with the Philly HopeLine.
