Hey Student Min Parents and Students -

STUDENT MIN PROGRAMMING IS BACK TONIGHT but it's going to look a little different than what you've grown accustomed to!!! Read below under our "What's Happening" headline to find out all the details we revealed to students on our zoom call last Wednesday!

We know many of you are back to digital learning this week and David and I are praying for each one as you continue to face regular schedule changes and interruptions. Hopefully it gave you time to watch the inauguration and have a mini history lesson in your home! Take time tonight to talk (and listen to your students) about today's events, no matter what side of the table you sit on politically, this is history each and every time we elect a new President!

We're looking forward to catching up with students this week. And we have something fun in store for next week, so keep reading!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

THIS WEEK in
STUDENT MIN

Last week we shared with our zoom students that we're launching a new 2021 plan for student ministry. While we don't know what these next few weeks may look like for school or school activities, our Covid numbers are still very high in our area, so we've committed to virtual ministry for the time being. So for the next 60 days we have a plan!

We're dividing our months and planning different activities for each week! We know more important than anything for our students right now, is connection. Here's our schedule:

*1st and 3rd weeks of each month: Small Group Connect - this will look a little different for each small group! We've empowered our small group leaders to connect with their groups twice a month. For some that might mean a zoom call, for others there may be some letter writing, and for even more there might be personal check ins with students. But we hope your student is engaging with their small group leaders and others in the group! **If your student is not currently connected with a grade specific small group and would like to be, now is a great time to join in! Please email me ([email protected]) and we'll get your student's information to their leaders asap!

*2nd week of each month: We're planning TWO ZOOM CALLS - one for guys and one for girls! We'll be sharing details about these calls next week, but we'll be diving deep into some topics that hit really close to home for our students! We want to empower and encourage them and we'll be doing just that!

*4th week of each month: We'll be hosting a fun zoom (or something a little different) for ALL STUDENTS. Think devo, fun activity, games! We want our students to connect with each other and have fun in the process! Next week we have a special surprise and it doesn't involve zoom! But, it is a SURPRISE! We'll give you a few hints early in the week via social media and we'll update you on Wednesday with the nitty-gritty details! Today's hint reflects back to last week's zoom - last week we played a game looking at items on a map. . . So start guessing what next week could be :-)
CALLING ALL 11th-12th Graders or Enrolled College Students!

We are seeking an unpaid social media intern dedicated to increasing awareness and engagement for HMUMC!

This person will work closely with the Director of Communications and team to determine the social media strategy and schedule. This intern's main goal is to develop, design, and prepare social media posts, at first primarily focused on The Pantry.

It is anticipated this role would require 2-3 hours of work each week, can be done virtually, and will run from end of January - May 2021. You will be asked to create a sample post once you apply.

If you are looking to share your skills and get some school credit, we hope you will apply! To learn more visit hmumc.org or email our Director of Communications, Carrie Smola, at [email protected].
SAVE THE DATE
Feb. 12-14, 2021

Come share the love with your HMUMC Family with a Valentine's Themed Drive-In Movie Night, Friday, February 12th at 6:30 pm or two other ways to connect with HMUMC throughout the weekend!

*FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 12th: Whether you want to join us for a date night or a family night, everyone is welcome. We know this will be a special way to gather with your loved ones and have some fun together in a socially distanced way. In addition to the 2019 action adventure movie "Aladdin" by Disney Studios on the large outdoor screen, we will be providing bottled waters, bags of popcorn and a special Valentine's Day treat for the whole family! This new version of Aladdin is beautifully done and appropriate for all ages!

There is no cost for the event, but we do invite you to participate in our collection of new socks and new or unused blankets as we share the warmth with our community who are experiencing homelessness. This collection benefits Desire Thy Portion who is a new missional partner of HMUMC that reaches out to people experiencing homelessness with the love of Jesus and meets their basic needs. Upon your arrival, we will have bins to place your donations.

Arrival time will be between 6pm and 6:25pm, and our movie will begin at 6:30pm. Once you register, you will be given an arrival time. We ask that you sign up no later than Wednesday, February 10 so we can coordinate arrival times. Register today

**WE ARE PREPARING FOR SUNDAY WORSHIP ON FEBRUARY 14th and we want to share pictures of you and your Valentine during our services (similar to our Veterans Day slideshow).

Your Valentine can be your kids, your pet, or your family. We'd love to see them all!

Please email your photo(s) to Paula Ragsdale at [email protected] by Sunday, February 7th to be included. If you submit a wedding or couple picture, please let us know how long you have been together!

We are also very excited for some upcoming "Share the Love" events so please stay tuned to your email and our social media channels to hear more.

Last but not least - we're inviting all women to join a fun Women's Ministry virtual day together on Saturday, February 13th. Read today's email or visit our website for more details!
