At the most basic level, what makes a home affordable comes down to simple math. Subtract your monthly rent or mortgage from your take-home pay, and you should have enough money left over for life’s necessities. We cannot remain a healthy and stable community without adequate affordable housing. Businesses need employees and customers, schools need teachers and students, restaurants need cooks and patrons. In an economically sustainable community, there are enough people for each of these roles.

The need for ‘affordable housing’ is greater than ever. With growing housing shortages and how this impacts the quality of life for all residents, we must better prepared to speak and advocate on behalf of all our neighbors. Through HFH’s Cost of Home campaign, we are mobilizing local organizations, partners, volunteers, and community members across the country to find solutions and to help create policies that will allow individuals to have access to affordable homes. Together, we can make the cost of home something we all can afford. Join us!

Supporting L-C Valley Habitat for Humanity programs is a powerful way to make a local impact. When we help our neighbors overcome unexpected expenses and allow them to remain or become safely housed, we have an immediate and lasting impact on the economic health and vitality of our community. An L-C Valley Habitat homeowner, Brittni Curl, had this to say about how L-C Valley Habitat helped her family- "Being able to put my hard-earned money to a house payment instead (of rent) is an amazing thing. The house is ours. No one can take it away. We can do anything."

Corks for a Cause at Lindsay Creek Vineyards

Come join the fun at Lindsay Creek Vineyards as we kickoff our annual Women Build event! We'll share information about our Women Build 2023 fundraiser, celebrate women in the trades, and enjoy some lovely drinks and appetizers. A percentage of wine sales helps support our affordable housing programs.

This will also be the first opportunity to register for a spot on one of our Women Build days or purchase a scholarship for a student at LCSC or WWCC to help us build.

We were fortunate to host two volunteer teams through Twin County United Way's Day of Caring. The group from Coleman Oil helped us prep our next Playhouse project by priming all of the pieces. The group from Inland Cellular helped out at the ReStore by revamping our tile and flooring room. The help these groups provided saved us countless hours of work and made a huge impact. Thank you all!

Beni is a hardworking, single mother of 3 children. When she was young, she quit school after 7th grade and had to get a GED to be able to work. In recent years, she returned to school at LCSC and earned her degree in engineering!

One of the things she is most excited about with her new home is the chance to plant her very own peach tree in the yard. She also shared how excited she is to have her children grow up in their own home and attend school without the worry of changing schools like they would have if she had to find a new place to rent.
