The Restrictions Exemption Program Safety Training is available to employees of Alberta-based businesses and organizations who are implementing the REP and other COVID-19 safety requirements. The 45-minute online training is available to employers and staff at no cost to help them assess and manage challenging situations that may arise during their daily operations.

As of Nov. 29th, ski hills can operate outdoor activities without implementing the Restrictions Exemption Program (REP) and trade shows can opt into the program.

Government Introduces new Legislation

The Canada Recovery Hiring Program is extended to May 7, 2022. A revenue loss of only 10% is required. Subsidizing eligible businesses up to 50% of their new staffing costs – hiring new employees, re-hiring people you had to lay off, or increasing hours for existing staff.

A program created to provide wage and rent subsidies for hotels, tour operators, travel agencies, festivals, convention centres and restaurants. Maximum wage and rent subsidy 75%. To receive this maximum, your business must experience an average revenue loss of at least 40% over 12 months (March 2020 to February 2021 as a comparison) as well as a minimum revenue loss of 40% in current month. This program is open to businesses in all other sectors that have experienced revenue reductions of at least 50%. Maximum wage and rent subsidy 50%. To receive this subsidy, your business must experience an average revenue loss of at least 50% over 12 months as well as a minimum revenue loss of 50% in the current month. Click here for more info.

The Highly Affected Sectors Credit Availability Program

This provides a loan between $25,000 and $1 million per legal entity with no forgivable portion to help businesses from all sectors with additional financing. The proceeds of the loan are exclusively meant to fund the operational cash flow needs of the business and ensure a degree of operations continuity. HASCAP will be extended until December 31, 2021. Alberta Businesses can now apply to access up to $25,000 over 52 weeks to hire and/or train new employees. Applications are available now through December 31, 2021. Click here for more info.

The Canada-Alberta Job Grant helps to cover training expenses for existing employees and new hires. If you are hiring and training an unemployed Albertan, up to 100% of training costs could be covered, up to $15,000 per trainee. Click here for more info.

Albertans planning to travel can download an updated vaccine record with a QR code to use within and outside Canada as of November 24th, 2021.

Alberta began taking vaccine bookings for five to 11-year-olds on November 24th, 2021.
