Dear GMHS Students and Families,
We hope this week's update finds you all healthy and doing well. Today the School District sent an email regarding second semester. Here is a link to the email. Grades 6-12 will start on January 6, 2021 in remote learning. The graphic above shows the District plan for returning to in-person learning. The following information is additional clarification on how the decision will be made to return to hybrid learning:
Notes about implementing Hybrid learning for grades 6-12
- The district will continue to monitor virus activity, quarantines, and CDPHE and JCPH advisories about in-person activities. We will continue to assess the start date for grades 6-12 and make the earliest decision possible to begin the start of Hybrid learning.
- The virus impacts older students disproportionately due to higher transmission and contraction rates.
- Secondary schedules often do not allow for use of cohorting as a mitigation strategy.
- The return to a Hybrid model for grades 6-12 is supported by public health officials when Jefferson County reaches Level Orange on the COVID-19 status dial OR with improving metrics in Level Red. The following will also need to be met:
- K-5 schools are operationally stable.
- Jefferson County demonstrates a plateau in case incident rates followed by a decline.
- Schools will use Targeted Contact Identification (TCI) Criteria, seating charts, six feet of social distancing, and require masks as mitigation strategies.
The GMHS staff is continuing our work to refine teacher learning management systems for clarity and communication; we are closely monitoring grades and attendance and identifying ways to engage our students and families as much as possible. Whatever second semester brings, we will be as ready as possible!

Restore, Refresh, Renew
-
The GMHS Staff wishes all of our students and families a healthy and safe Holiday Season! May you Restore, Refresh & Renew! We look forward to starting 2021! Thank you for your support!
- Thank you to Bari Abuhadema, Student Engagement Liaison who led the Holiday food and gift efforts at GMHS! Thank you to our GMHS PTA and the many wonderful GMHS Families who helped make this happen.
-
From Bari: Thank you from the bottom of our hearts! Words can’t describe the appreciation and the gratitude I have, and that has been shown by your generosity to our Green Mountain families in need during these uncertain times, especially during the holiday season. Your warmth and kindness is felt in the GM universe. I want to wish you all the happiest of times with your family and friends. Your responses to these families is proof that we all are in this together. Your warm hearts will make this holiday very merry for so many of our GM families. Thank you and may peace be upon you in the years to come. Happy New Year and may 2021 be the year we all face each other with warm and welcoming hearts. I can’t wait until we have the countdown to take our face masks off and celebrate each other with hugs that will be felt in the entire universe.

Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is a psychology theory posed by Abraham Maslow in his 1943 paper, “A Theory of Human Motivation.”
According to this theory, all people have needs that must be satisfied. Maslow used a pyramid to describe and categorize these needs, as shown in the figure. Needs on the bottom of the pyramid must be met before needs on the next level can be addressed. This theory goes a long way to describing why some students are thriving during the remote learning while others are struggling. If your family has challenges meeting daily living expenses this does not allow one to focus on academics. Julie Federico our Mental Health Counselor was hired to help with this. To reach her: 303-982-9996 or [email protected].

The start date for Season B has been delayed based on communication with CDPHE. Please read the linked CHSAA update for more specific information. We ask that you still register your athletes for Season B sports (Boys' & Girls' Basketball and Girls' Swim) as planned. Fees will not be charged until after the season officially starts. The Season B Parent/Athlete/Coach Meeting has been postponed. We will post the rescheduled meeting information on our website as soon as we have determined the new date.
MEDICAL CLEARANCE FOR CONCUSSIONS & COVID19 POSITIVE: In efforts to ensure our student-athletes are safe and healthy, please note that there is a Return to Play protocol for anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19. Many know there is a Return to Play protocol for those that have experienced concussions. This is something new that requires a Doctor's clearance to start, so if you have any questions, please contact our athletic trainer, Catherine Ortiz, at [email protected]
**There are other JeffCo schools that offer Ice Hockey, Skiing, and Wrestling which are also Season B sports. Contact the athletic office of the school where your athlete is interested in participating to get more information.
Contact our Athletic Office (303-982-9570) if you have any questions.
