Dear Joseph Sears School Parents and Guardians,
As the summer begins, we would like you to take some time to read. Below you will find suggested titles for each grade level. Please choose one of the books and read it before the start of school. You can choose to read this book with a partner, a parent, or on your own. At the beginning of the school year, you will be expected to share your insights about your book during ELA class.

Sixth Grade Selections:

Seventh Grade Selections:

  3. One Half From the East by Nadia Hashimi
  4. Twelve Days in May: Freedom Ride 1961 by Larry Dane Brimner
  5. The Screaming Staircase by Jonathan Stroud
  6. Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie by Jordan Sonnenblick

Eighth Grade Selections:

  1. Paper Things by Jennifer Richard Jacobson
  2. Girl Stolen by April Henry
  3. The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown (Young Readers Adaptation)
  4. Steve Jobs: The Man Who Thought Different by Karen Blumenthal
  5. Wild Bird by Wendelin Van Draanen
  6. Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds
