Monroe County Schools to Have Normal Afternoon Release:
Afternoon Extracurricular Activities Cancelled
All Monroe County Schools will follow their normal afternoon release schedules today (Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2021). Additional law enforcement officers will be present on every school campus to provide assistance and security until all students have safely left the buildings.
As of 12:45 p.m. this afternoon, the search for a suspect at large just south of Forsyth was continuing. Because of the proximity of the search area to several school campuses, all Monroe County Schools remain in a heightened state of caution and alert. The instructional day has proceeded as normal inside the school buildings. The only interruption has been the suspension of campus-to-campus transfers.
Monroe County Schools officials have remained in constant contact with law enforcement officials all during this manhunt which began about 8:00 a.m. As the situation changed rapidly, officers maintained extra visibility and presence on all school campuses.
All elementary, middle and high school after school extra-curricular activities will be cancelled for today. After school childcare at the elementary schools will operate as normal.
