Colorado Poor People’s Campaign conversation
|
|
On Saturday, January 23, from 2-4 pm, is the next Colorado Poor People’s Campaign northern Colorado community conversation. It's been over 50 years since Martin Luther King Jr formed and led the Poor People's Campaign to fight systemic poverty and racism. Today, these constructs remain intact compounded by effects of ecological devastation, a militaristic economy, and a false nationalistic moral narrative that sustains division and oppression. These moral injustices manifest in problems with healthcare, housing and homelessness, voter suppression, climate change, debt, and discriminatory policing, to name a few.
I am appealing to you to help get out the word to anyone you know who has been impacted by injustices of systemic racism, systemic poverty, an economy of militarism, ecological devastation and a false nationalistic moral narrative, or, by the problems these injustices produce such as healthcare inequalities, homelessness, climate change, etc. We want to hear from you, share our experiences, and brainstorm ideas for action to drive policy changes that will lift up our communities and institute policy changes that will bring about justice for all. I’d like to make a special appeal to young people (anyone younger than me!) to attend this one. They are the leaders of tomorrow and we must hear their voices today.
Thank you for your help,
~Tom Moos, Colorado Poor People’s Campaign

Non Profit Service Project
|
|
Hello, my name is Finnegan Berning and I am a 7th grade, National Junior Honor Society student at Boltz Middle School. As NJHS members, we have been given the opportunity to individually organize a non-profit, service project. Before Covid, I was a volunteer at the Larimer Humane Society, so I decided to reach out to them to see if they are in need of specific donations. Kaley Platek, the Volunteer and Humane Education Program Manager said they are in need of reusable face masks for their shelter employees and staff. They are looking for fabric, washable face masks that are either handmade or store bought, and prefer elastic ear straps.
If you would like to donate masks that I can deliver to the Humane Society, my family and I will be at Trinity Lutheran Church, by the main doors (circle drive) on Saturday, January 23 from 12-2 pm. If you cannot make it, but would like to donate, please email me at 101065@psdschools.org and we can make arrangements to pick them up.
Thank you for your support,
Finnegan Berning

Helping kids focus on being kids
|
|
When children and teens have what they need to meet their day-to-day clothing and hygiene needs, they no longer need to focus on staying warm or facing the stigma of appearing "unkempt". Access to basic needs infuses a sense of normalcy, belonging and self-worth into their lives, better preparing them for school and healthy relationships.
A partnership of Homeward Alliance and Family Housing Network, the Family Food and Children's/Teen Clothing Closet provides 24/7 access to non-profit and agency partners-- allowing case workers, counselors and others to meet immediate needs for food, hygiene, diapers, clothing and warm winter gear. One case worker told stated, "the closet helped me build my relationship with my teenage client when I was able to get her the clothing she needed."
HOW TO HELP! Click HERE to donate.
If you are interested in donating children's clothing and other items to the closet, please click HERE for details. Donation drop-offs resume Wednesday, January 13. The greatest needs are gift cards and monetary donations to help fill gaps in donations and special sizes.

When does weather cancel church?
Trinity does not have an official cancellation policy, but the rule of the thumb that leadership has agreed upon is that weekly church events will be canceled when Poudre School District delays or cancels events. On the weekends, worship will not be canceled. As always, use your best judgment in poor weather conditions, and know that you are still loved by God if you miss Bible Study, Choir, or Worship. We will post cancellations to our website, facebook page, and a mass email to all of you.
