Global leadership in improving human performance & effectiveness in healthcare
US Strategic Command Fellows engaged in a tour of the Davis Global Center that focused on the integration of simulation and visualization technologies into their respective operations. This group represented multiple aspects of STRATCOM leadership including research, engineering and training.
May Highlights
Integrative Technology for Grand Rounds
Dr. Justin Siebler and the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery hosted grand rounds at the Davis Global Center. The group utilized the iEXCEL Helix interactive digital wall to engage residents with complex case studies in a new and exciting way.
Teamwork Used to Create Educational Resources
The UNMC Munroe Meyer Speech Language Pathologists led by Dr. Jessica Gormley identified the need for training resources among their team and the broader community. They worked in collaboration with the iEXCEL Clinical Simulation team as well as Standardized Patients to create and film realistic scenarios that will help interdisciplinary providers enhance communication with patients affected by limited speech.
Testing High Fidelity Surgical Models
Department of Neurosurgery led by Dr. William Thorell used phantom cranial models to practice minimally invasive neurosurgery procedures related to the evacuation and clearance of intracerebral hemorrhages from the brain. Within this newly developed training activity, each brain model included CT scans and image guided navigation software for a truly immersive learning experience.
