The NGVI will be used to fund a network of 500,000 EVSE, and funding will be provided only after a State Plan has been submitted and approved.

US DOE $3B for Advanced Batteries
|
|
The US Department of Energy has announced a plan to grant nearly $3B to boost domestic production capabilities for advanced batteries and battery materials production.
|

SMUD’s Charge@Home incentive program began on December 8 and lasts until February 28, 2022. SMUD residential customers who have purchased or leased a new or used EV may qualify for up to $500 for the purchase of a Level 2 charger and up to $500 for installation by a licensed electrician.

EPA Clean School Bus Program
|
|
The Clean School Bus Program provides $5 billion over five years (FY 2022-2026) for the replacement of existing school buses with clean school buses and zero-emission school buses. EPA intends to open a rebate program as early as April 2022.
Eligible recipients for this funding include:
- State and local governments,
- Nonprofit school transportation associations, and
- Tribes, Tribal organizations or Tribal-controlled schools.

Rice University Study on Renewable Energy Transition
|
|
A study by Rice University’s Baker Institute warns that forcing the transition to renewable energy too quickly will risk global shortages of food and water and potentially destabilize the world’s economy. The study points to Europe’s current energy and economic problem, as well as Russia’s growing hegemony being enabled.

GM to Resume Bolt Production
|
|
GM has announced that they will resume production of the Chevy Bolt on April 4. Following 18 Bolt battery fires, GM is replacing all 2017 - 2019 Bolt battery packs and will use the new packs in future Bolts being produced.

Corn Ethanol GHG Benefit Questioned

The National Academy of Sciences has produced an analysis that calls into question the GHG benefits of corn ethanol. The analysis shows ethanol is 24% more carbon-intensive than conventional gasoline.

Pacifica Hybrid Battery Fires

Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler, is recalling 19,000 2017 & 2018 Pacifica Minivans after identifying 12 battery fires in these vehicles. Pacifica owners are advised not to charge these vehicles until repairs are made.

CARB has done an analysis of hydrogen stations in California that predicts a self-sustaining network of hydrogen stations by 2030. Current private industry investments in hydrogen stations has increased from 30% to 70% by 2021.
