Thanksgiving Departure Transportation Reminders

Absence Request Forms--Action Needed
  • In order to verify the information that students previously provided to the School, parents of all boarding students must submit an Absence Request via the Parent Portal to confirm students' departure dates and times.
  • If you are uncertain as to the information your student entered, please check with your student before completing the form. Inconsistencies could result in travel delays. If you have questions about timing, please contact your student's advisor.
  • If travel plans change after the request has been submitted, please complete a new request. Use the "Comments" section to identify the change.

  • If you submit a request for a student departure before November 20, the class deans will follow up for additional clarification.
How is Your Student Traveling?
  • If your student is traveling by car (i.e., family pick-up and/or taxi/livery service), details about our pick up process will be shared with you later this week via email.
  • If your student is traveling by bus, the reservation window has closed. There may still be seats available, so please email Laurie Grusauski to inquire about late reservations. February bus return schedule information will be available in December.
  • For general travel questions, please contact the Deans' Office
Unaccompanied Minors: If your student is not 16 years of age and is traveling by air, we suggest that you check with your airline before booking flights to see if any restrictions are in place with respect to underage children traveling alone. Some airlines have more restrictive policies than others and demand a higher level of services for unaccompanied minors. Please note that the School does not provide escort services to or from airports. If you need special services, please call one of our area car services to make arrangements. If you have questions about unaccompanied minors, please call Stephen McKibben P'22, dean of community life at (860) 435-3631 or, after hours, the dean on duty at (860) 435-2591.

Standardized Test Schedule

Reminder: the late registration deadline for the December 5 SAT is November 24; the deadline for the December 12 ACT is November 20.

In a letter sent in late September, we shared second semester testing options with you. Since then, a new calendar came out that prevents us from offering the February ACT. In light of the new schedule, Hotchkiss has cancelled the February 6 ACT, but added the April 17 ACT on our campus.

While some of you may take a December SAT or ACT, we will still be offer two sittings of each test as outlined below. All of these will occur on campus.

ACT:
March 2*
April 17*

SAT:
March 24*

* The March 2 ACT, March 24 SAT, and April 17 ACT will be private tests, and Ms. Grusauski, our testing coordinator, will send registration instructions in mid-January.

Hotchkiss Civics Program
Alumni and Faculty Host Virtual All-School Civics Program

On the morning of November 4, following the United States presidential election, students, faculty, and staff participated in a fascinating All-School Civics Program. During the virtual event, a bi-partisan panel of speakers discussed the election, the nation's electoral system, evolving ideology across both major political parties, and the importance of informed media consumption. After discussing a series of planned topics, panelists addressed questions submitted by the audience. Click here to view the recorded event.
