June News & Updates

Meet Ryan!
Ryan loves music (especially rap), singing and staying in touch with friends and family! Recently, Ryan's Support Coordinator, Robin Smith, was recently able to assist Ryan in obtaining a tablet through the Arc of NJ Tech Grant. Ryan was so excited to begin using the tablet, especially with the Alexa app. With the help of his tablet, Ryan attended his virtual day program and currently attends his music sessions weekly!

A Day at the Beach!

Residents and visitors looking for accessible beaches in Atlantic County will have an easier time finding them thanks to the newly released Atlantic County Accessible Beach Guide, produced by the Atlantic County Offices of Disability in cooperation with the County’s Disability Advisory Board. This is the time to request a beach trike or any adaptive equipment to make a day at the beach easily accessible. Speak to your Support Coordinator today about how to use the budget for adaptive equipment.

Notice from the NJ Department of Human Services
Hello Division Constituents and Community Partners,

As you may know, the moratorium on utility shut-offs in New Jersey is ending June 30, 2021 and may compound the challenges that some individuals already face when paying for utilities. In response to this, the NJ Board of Public Utilities (BPU) is highlighting a variety of energy assistance programs during their “Utility Assistance Week,” which runs from May 17-21.

Please share this BPU Energy Assistance flyer (also available in Spanish) with your networks and communities.

For additional information about New Jersey’s Utility Assistance programs, visit the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities.

Thank you.

Jonathan Seifried
Assistant Commissioner
New Jersey Department of Human Services
Division of Developmental Disabilities

Use the anonymous "DCAid" screening tool to determine if you are eligible for assistance, and for more information on how to apply.
Benefits Checkup
As a Support Coordination agency, we are always looking for resources to help those we serve. Many people across the state are being vaccinated against COVID-19. Things are starting to open up around the state. Your Support Coordinator can work with you to do a benefits checkup to see you qualify for the many benefits New Jersey has to offer. Have you ever heard of the Families First Discovery Pass? This program provides families and individuals enrolled in state assistance programs with free or highly discounted admission to arts and history organizations, venues, and programs – both in-person and virtual. To find out more about this benefit, click here and call your Support Coordinator to help you access this and other services.

Our Promise

The Mom2Mom Peer Support Helpline Program answers the need for help with adaptation.
An abundance of resources for children and adults with special needs are out there, offering everything from advocacy and education, to financial support. But what was missing from the equation was services that focused specifically on addressing the primary caregiver’s mental health and wellness. The well-being of moms was being largely overlooked.  Not anymore.
