This examination of 26 people from all walks of life proves that it’s more than just a job for the average working American. The musical is based on the 1974 Studs Terkel book Working: People Talk About What They Do All Day and How They Feel About What They Do. The book includes interviews with people from different regions and occupations. The idea for the musical was born after Stephen Schwartz read Terkel’s book and felt compelled to explore the voices of the men and women who comprise the fabric of America.

The Southern Maryland Banjo Projects seeks to celebrate and illuminate the banjo's West African roots, its forgotten pioneers, and its significant history in Charles County and the Chesapeake region.

After more than a year of Cooper Voice Studio virtual recitals and cancelled GrooveSpan gigs, we are ready to bust out and perform! Various Cooper Voice Studio members will perform a mix of classical, musical theatre, pop, etc. with their collaborative pianists, and GrooveSpan will get in on the live music action in the second half of the program! Performance will take place at the new (outdoor covered) Margaret Brent Pavilion in St. Mary’s City, right next to the Historic Maryland State House. Save the date! Details to come!

The Charles County chapter of the Maryland Writers’ Association
provides support to aspiring and established writers in all aspects of the craft, including basic writing, editing, beta readers and critiques, publishing, and marketing. We also set up periodic book signing events, though these are largely on hold due to the pandemic. Our monthly meetings cover where we all are on our literary journey, guest speakers, upcoming events, and opportunities for submission. Our chapter meets virtually the third Wednesday of each month, with a critique group from 6PM to 7PM, followed by a business meeting, speakers and writing prompts from 7-8:30PM. E-mail Lewis McIntyre to be added to our mailing list to receive our Zoom meeting links.

The Maryland Writers' Association (MWA) invites you to have fun being an off-beat travel writer like Judy Colbert. With just 100 words, pick an off-beat place you know of and write a piece that will make people curious enough to visit it. Submit your Fun With Words response by June 25 and receive an MWA Fun With Words submission certificate. Selected responses will be published with next month's article. |

About the Charles County Arts Alliance, Inc.
The mission of the Charles County Arts Alliance (CCAA) is to stimulate, promote, encourage, and provide recognition of the arts and the creative spirit. Founded in 1987, the CCAA promotes ALL the arts in Charles County: music, visual art, drama, dance and literature.
The CCAA is the official arts council of Charles County and is recognized as such by the Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC), an agency of the Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED) of the State of Maryland. In this capacity, the CCAA serves as the "umbrella" organization for the arts community in Charles County. The CCAA promotes Charles County arts organizations and individuals, provides financial support to nonprofit organizations and the schools through its annual arts grant programs, sponsors the creation and presentation of new, diverse cultural activities and special events for the community, provides arts scholarships, and ensures the Charles County's under-served population, people with disabilities, residents with limited income, minorities, and senior citizens have access to the arts. The CCAA builds partnerships with local government, the business community and the educational community, in an effort to enhance the overall quality of life for the citizens of Charles County.
