Not Your Usual Caricature Artist
Vol. 9, No. 3
Welcome to the March issue of
Not Your Usual Caricature Artist
from Caricatures by Joel

Naturally, I'm being flippant -- there's nothing "vacation-y" about being held hostage, like the rest of the world, by Covid-19 for the previous 12 months. As such, I was very fortunate to have had opportunities to continue my caricature work.

Frankly, I've also been fortunate in accepting assignments that could be worked out of my studio, with photos for reference instead of engaging in "live" events where, face mask wearing notwithstanding, there lingers -- as in droplets in the air -- the hazard of exposing myself and others to a Covid "carrier."

Anyway, please check out these samples, with descriptions below.
Featured on this page are:

  • Award winning Charlotte office team members from international asset management firm Mercer
  • Retiring attorneys Bob and Graham from law firm McGuire Woods
  • The presidential combatants were commissioned by a politically involved individual to share with like-minded friends and media outlets
  • Sandy, George, Stella, Liz and Pete are Charlotte Airport volunteers who were selected for their meritorious service in helping travelers to navigate their way to the planes; their caricatures are now adorning the wall of the airport staff room
  • Bud and Lou were the subject of a captioned piece I sent to an online humor publication
(continued...)
  • The waitress was singled out by her boss at a Mint Hill burger joint as a birthday gift for her exemplary service
  • The three folks at an AA meeting were featured in last month's NYUCA newsletter on former Charlotte investigative reporter Stuart Watson's new autobiography

That'll do it for now. See you again the first Tuesday of next month for another (hopefully still) antiseptic look at the world of caricature art, through the eyes of
Not Your Usual Caricature Artist from Caricatures by Joel.
In the meantime, wishing us all good health, peace of mind
and the wisdom and fortitude to, as best as can be expected,
stay above the fray.
