News of the Women's Caucus for Art New Hampshire Chapter
"Broken Heart Full of Hope," by eco artist Cynthia Cutting, is an installation that was positioned at the top of the community bonfire in Plymouth NH. The bonfire was assembled and hosted by Roger Ellsworth and Eva Nagorka on their property and was lit New Year's Eve. Happy New Year!
Dear Members
Happy New Year! Here’s hoping that 2021 will be better than 2021. We can’t control what’s going on in the world but we can work on ourselves.
The New Year is traditionally a time when people make resolutions, start diets, join gyms, and in general, begin a self-renewal.
Forget the diets, why not try a new art medium? Art classes begin both online and in person at various local and not-so-local schools start soon. Now is a good time to sign up and try something new. We have the Edith Weiler professional development fund just for that purpose. The application form is here. https://www.wcanh.org/the-edith-weiler-professional-development-grant/
If you are teaching art classes or know of upcoming interesting classes, please share them to our WCANH Facebook group. https://www.facebook.com/groups/336775120643

Stay well,

Tintype Studio Updates
Happy New Year! I’ve spent a lot of time lately working on portraits in my newest room, the tintype studio and vault darkroom. I have a system in place to make 4×5 and 5×7 tintype plates. Next I will be working with 8×10 plates.

Artists Read
by Rebecca Hastings

Frida in America: The Creative Awakening of a Great Artist by Celia Stahr. Saint Martin’s Press 2020.
Don’t sigh…another Frida book? This well-documented turning point in Kahlo’s life is an engaging read. Frida’s time in Gringolandia, as she nicknamed the U.S. turned out to be the stimulant that sparked “a period of immense creative and personal growth

You Are an Artist: Assignments to Spark Creation by Sarah Urist Green. Penguin Books 2020
“Chock-full of artist stories and stimulating creative tasks, this is a book readers should keep close, especially during the winter when inspiration can be finite resource. The tone carried throughout is reminiscent of a supportive art teacher…”

Guerrilla Girls: The Art of Behaving Badly by The Guerrilla Girls. Chronicle Books, 2020.
If you are a bit hazy on who the Guerrilla Girls are they are a collective of political feminist artists who expose discrimination and corruption in art, film, politics, and pop culture all around the world. This is the first book to catalog the entire career of the Guerrilla Girls from 1985 to present. It will challenge its readers to don “gorilla masks and use their voice and talent to change the world”.
