Mayor Cunningham Appoints 4 Residents to the Community Connectivity Committee
February 11, 2021
Village of Palmetto Bay
Last week, Commissioner Daniella Cohen Higgins, the County representative for District 8 which encompasses Palmetto Bay, presented a Resolution before the Board of County Commissioners (BCC) urging the County Mayor to take action on the construction of a bridge on SW 87th Avenue from SW 164th Street to SW 163rd Terrace. Approval of the item by the BCC prompted the scheduling of a Special Council Meeting by Mayor Cunningham this past Monday to discuss the matter with Palmetto Bay residents. Out of 163 comments received, 131 were in opposition to the bridge.

In a letter to the Mayors of Palmetto Bay and Cutler Bay, our neighboring city in favor of the project, Commissioner Cohen Higgins requested 4 names from each municipality to form the Community Connectivity Committee. The committee is responsible for engaging in meaningful discussion and for providing a report to the Transportation Planning Organization stating the pro's and con's of the bridge project.

Below are the Village of Palmetto Bay residents appointed by Mayor Cunningham to serve on this committee:

  1. Marcelo Zinn
  2. Carmen Baker
  3. Joseph Miorelli
  4. Alan Farquharson

We'd like to thank our residents who expressed an interest in serving their Village and urge them and everyone to remain involved in the process.

The committee meets today, February 11th, February 18th, February 25th, and March 4th at 7 pm. Committee members will meet in person in the Palmetto Bay Council Chambers, and members of the general public will participate virtually. The meetings will be broadcast live on Facebook and the Village's website.
