Hello from Haiti!
The situation is worse than ever in Haiti.
In the 20 years we have been working in Haiti, the situation has never been so desperate. Gangs have taken over substantial parts of the country, and have caused tremendous disruption. There is a massive fuel shortage because the gangs control the port where fuel is offloaded and will not allow the fuel to be distributed. Due to a lack of fuel for generators, hospitals are closing. The cell phone infrastructure is collapsing. These same gangs kidnap people for ransom. Anyone can be a kidnapping target, including government officials, college professors, pastors, and missionaries. Robbery is common on the roads, disrupting commerce. There is a general atmosphere of fear and despair all over Haiti.
Despite these challenges, something good has happened!
More than two years ago, Revolution Church in Canton, Georgia graciously funded a new roof for one of our partner churches in the village of Dolval. The roof had large holes in it, and eventually some sections even blew off. Then Covid-19 hit and after that, there was the general civil decay which caused a long delay in the project. As the project was evaluated earlier this year, it was determined that two of the walls needed to be reconstructed in addition to the roof. Many of you stepped in and helped with the increased cost. Finally, in the month of October, the project got off the ground and was completed very quickly. Even though the transportation of material to the village was dangerous, it arrived safely and the workers were able to complete the project. Now the church has a proper roof and the village is celebrating! This an important milestone in the life of the village.
The church is expanding with additional classroom and meeting space, so there is more work to be done. If you would like to help out with the expansion, please click the link at the bottom of this email for donation information.
God is still God, no matter what.
We are reminded that God is still sovereign even when there is nothing but trouble in sight. Psalm 73:26 says "My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength and the portion of my heart forever." [ESV] We are encouraged that this important project was completed even when it seems like it would be too dangerous to try. Please continue to pray for Haiti during this severe time of trouble and testing. We are very grateful for your support.
