Community Chats Kick Off This Month

Vice Mayor Urban Carmel and City Manager Todd Cusimano held the first in a series of “Community Chats” on May 11, 2023, with over 30 participants joining either in-person or remotely. The meeting gave community members the opportunity to discuss current issues, ask questions, and make suggestions in an informal setting.


Discussion topics included open government and transparency, East Blithedale Avenue construction and bike lanes, affordable and workforce housing, deferred infrastructure maintenance, traffic, 500 Miller Ave, Planning and Building processes and fees, Alto Tunnel and sustainability. East Blithedale Avenue Project Update

The latest news is here: May 16 and May 11, 2023

Work on the roadway continues, with the construction of concrete bus pads, crosswalk striping, PG&E natural gas relocation, and more. If possible, we urge motorists to avoid East Blithedale Avenue - use Camino Alto and Miller Avenue to avoid the construction area. Thank you for your continued patience!

MVPD: E-Bike Education Continues - Citations To Follow

After weeks of education, officers will begin issuing citations for E-Bike riders that violate the City's new E-Bike Ordinance. Adopted unanimously in April, the ordinance, one of the few passed in the State of California, is an attempt to control and promote the safe use of the increasing number of E-Bikes in the community. 1 Hamilton News - Study Session Scheduled for May 23, 2023 (6:30pm)

The Planning Commission will review the preliminary design review plans (available on the project website) at a Study Session scheduled for May 23, 2023 at 6:30pm in City Hall (26 Corte Madera Avenue, Mill Valley, CA). The purpose of the Study Session hearing is to provide feedback on the preliminary design prepared by the EAH project team based on feedback received to date.  Learn more.


City of Mill Valley to Consider Mandatory Retrofit Program

At their June 5, 2023 meeting, the Mill Valley City Council will consider a new, mandatory “Soft Story” Retrofit Program with an objective of protecting existing housing stock in the community.


The program is important both for public safety and for preserving the diversity of housing options in Mill Valley, including workforce and affordable housing.

Pride Month & Pride Flags - At their meeting on Monday, May 15, the City Council adopted a Resolution declaring June, 2023 as LGBTQIA+ Pride Month in the City of Mill Valley and authorized the display of the Pride Flag on City property.


From the Resolution: “The City of Mill Valley has a diverse Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, Asexual and more (LGBTQIA+) community, whom we honor and celebrate in the month of June, 2023 for Pride Month… The Pride Flag represents a commitment to honoring the identities, experiences, and contributions of the LGBTQIA+ community and its continuing struggle for social, political and economic equality. The prominent display of the Pride Flag demonstrates that the City of Mill Valley stands firmly for equality and inclusion.”

Free Public Transit for Kids and Teens in Summer 2023 - SMART, Marin Transit, Sonoma County Transit, Santa Rosa CityBus, and Petaluma Transit are offering free rides for K-12 youth throughout the summer (June-August) with the Summer Youth Ride Free Program.
