Join Ankie Barnes, co-founder of Barnes Vanze Architects and an ICAA Board Member, for a tour of the historic Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C.

With a rich history that predates the establishment of Washington D.C. itself, Georgetown is renowned for its stone and brick buildings, reflecting its growth from an early trading and industrial center to its later status as a residential neighborhood. Join Ankie for a visit to architectural jewels and historic sites of Georgetown, including early warehouses, the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal, the campus of Georgetown University, and much more.

The ICAA is excited to bring attention to the classical and traditional architectural and design elements, decisions, and features that make the places we live more welcoming and beautiful, as part of our new In Your Neighborhood series.

We welcome additional entries, and want to hear from you! If you are interested in proposing a location, please contact marketing@classicist.org.

ICAA CHAPTER SERIES
The ICAA's Florida Chapter is proud to introduce the fourth episode in the ongoing series Behind the Scenes, which highlights members of the Florida Chapter describing their craft and process.

Benjamin Blythe, of ICAA member firm Hyde Park Mouldings, takes us “Behind the Scenes” to their plaster workshop in New York. We discover how plaster mouldings are created by using a shape or profile moulding and are also cast for more ornamental work found in nature and enriched with floral patterns using traditional and current methods.

If you are interested in proposing an episode on your craft and process, please contact director@flclassicist.org.
VIRTUAL TOURS
Thursday, December 10
12:00 PM EST / 9:00 AM PST

On Thursday, December 10, the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art is honored to present a special live exploration of the Roman Forum in Rome, Italy, led by internationally renowned archaeologist, professor, and host of PBS's Ancient Invisible Cities, Darius Arya.

There is so much history in Rome and no place is more historical than the Roman forum. Nestled in between the Capitoline and Palatine hills, the forum was a rich, layered area that we will examine from its initial start as meeting place in the seventh century BC and development and evolution from Republic to imperial showcase center as a key social, political, and religious epicenter of the entire empire. We'll examine its places of worship, offices of magistrates, law courts, and how the forum was used by the various constituencies of the Roman empire. Through the structures we will trace the rise of the area, its eventual transformation into a Christian center, eventual demise, abandonment, rediscovery, and finally its ongoing preservation today.

THE ARCHITECTURE OF PLACE: UPCOMING LECTURES
Tuesday, December 8
12:00 PM EST / 9:00 AM PST

Design that works with, rather than against, its local climate is unquestionably the way of the future. For now, though, climate-responsive design remains something of a novelty, practiced and championed by the few and not the many. If we are to deliver the 230 billion square metres in new construction estimated to be needed between now and 2060 while also reducing the construction industry’s significant contribution towards global carbon emissions, the way we design needs to change, and fast.

The Architecture of Place is an educational series hosted in collaboration with INTBAU and The Prince's Foundation that brings together established and emerging voices working to create a better built future. Running through December, the series introduces new speakers and will explore topics of critical importance to the designers of today and the future, such as building healthy and sustainable communities, creating missing middle housing, and planning for rapid urbanization. Learn more about the series.

The ICAA would like to thank The Benton Family Foundation for its generous support of this lecture series, along with series sponsor McCrery Architects.

Additional thanks to INTBAU's supporters for this series, Fairfax & Sammons, ADAM Architecture, and Size Group.

Additional thanks to The Prince's Foundation's supporter, Mr. Paul Beirne.
