Hello First Methodist,

Project MHC is now only weeks away. We have 70 youth registered for this mission experience. This takes Many Hands for Christ and lots of prayer partners and snacks! Loretta has provided a list of snacks in this email if you would like to make a donation. Contact Pastor Sarah if you are willing to be a prayer partner. On Sunday we will have our very first Traditional Brunch between the 8:30 and 11:00 am traditional services. Brunch will be served in The Loft.

Pentecost

Sunday, May 28th

Pentecost is celebrated 50 days after Easter, commemorating the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus Christ. Called by many the birthday of the church, Pentecost represents a passing of the mantle of sorts—from the Incarnate Christ to the ever-present Spirit, the reminder of the God within, the sustainer, the teacher, the strengthener. Pentecost is a day of celebration for all that God has done and is doing within the life of the church.

Lady Swan Sunset Cruise

Wednesday, May 31st at 6:30

WaveRunners are boarding the Lady Swan for a Sunset Cruise. You are welcome to bring food and drinks!  The boat departs at 6:45, so please plan on being there at 6:30. Casper’s Marina, 301 S Water Street, Swansboro. Bring your cash payment of $32 per individual to pay as you board the boat. Each person will furnish their own transportation. If anyone cannot drive or find someone to carpool with, please call Claudia at 252-342-8580.  Sign up online or by calling the church by May 26th.

Interested in being a part of Project MHC? We are still in need of small group leaders, drivers, prayer partners, shower hosts, meal delivery drivers, and more! We have 70 youth registered so we will need just as many prayer partners to be in prayer and write notes of encouragement throughout the week. Click to help!

For many years First Methodist has provided a TV Ministry through cable tv on Sunday mornings. While worshipping on TV has evolved to streaming through our First Methodist TV app and Youtube channel and air-playing and screen mirroring from our website and Facebook page, we still offer an option to worship on Cable TV through Spectrum.

The service is now being aired on Channel 18 and 1310 at 11:00am on Sunday mornings. Spectrum airs a recording of the service from the previous week.

If you have any trouble worshipping online through any of these options and would like some assistance, please reach out to Kim Mccoury at kmccoury@firstmethodist.life.

YOU CAN TEACH SUNDAY SCHOOL!

We have openings for Kids Sunday School teachers. Shanna has made it super easy for you to volunteer. If you will sign up for just one Sunday a month it will be very helpful!

Sunday School on Mother's Day!

It was a Dad takeover in Sunday School so the moms could enjoy the service. Thank you Dads! You did such an amazing job and it is wonderful for the kids to have male role models leading and teaching. We would love to have you serve again!

Angel Choir

What a gift having the Angel Choir led by Katie Dixon sing "When God Made You My Mother" on Mother's Day. There were a lot of cameras, tears, and sweet angel voices.

Defined: Who God Says You Are

June 8 - August 3

Thursdays 5:15-6:30

Dinner Included

Rising 5th and 6th grade boys and girls are invited to participate in this 8-week Bible study guiding kids to find their identity in Christ, based on selected passages from Ephesians. This Bible study is great for beginners and early readers.

“Who am I?” is a question that many kids are being challenged to answer. To answer this question, we must first ask “Who does God say I am?” Beginning in Genesis, the Bible tells us that we are each made in God’s image, but that image has become distorted by sin. The only way to restore what was broken is through a relationship with Jesus. Through Defined: Who God Says I Am, kids will discover who God created them to be and what is true about their identity because of their relationship with Jesus. Please register for these small groups so that we will know how many study books to order.

Fire and Faithfulness

June 22-August 3

Thursdays 5:15-6:30

We live in a world that doesn’t care what God wants. Sure, they may not say it that way, but the messages that parade across social media declare that God’s way just isn’t worth it. But as Christians, we’re committed to following Jesus in every aspect of our lives. Is it possible to live—or maybe even thrive—as a believer in our world today?

Pastor Sarah is leading our 7th-9th grade girls in this four-session series with Sadie Robertson Huff. Discover the lost art of faithfulness in the face of a world that wants nothing to do with God. Trek through the story of four young Israelites who, when ripped from their homes, faced a choice: remain faithful followers in a foreign land, or bow before an empire that hated God. Register to let us know that you will be attending.

Boys Small Group

June 22-August 3

Thursdays 5:15-6:30

We want to help guide boys through the challenges they face each day and give them a way to connect this summer. Fletcher Poulk will be leading a small group for rising 7th and 9th grade boys on Thursdays from 5:15-6:30 pm during June 22-August 3. Register to let us know that you will be attending.

Registration is OPEN!

August 7-11th. Launch kids on a cosmic quest where they’ll have a blast shining Jesus’ light to the world. Stellar rockets kids on an out-of-this-world adventure that’s light years of faith-building fun. Registration is now open!
