Live Oak Youth Pop-Up Event!
|
|
The Youth Action Network (YAN) and United Way of Santa Cruz County are hosting a “Spring & Summer Pop-up Event Series” - a new, fun, and meaningful way to bring youth, community members, and youth-serving organizations together.
The Live Oak Youth Pop-Up Event will be at Shoreline Middle School on Wednesday, June 29th from 3:00-6:00 pm. This event is in partnership with the Live Oak School District, Cradle to Career, Salud y Cariño & Fuerza.
The goal of the pop-up events is to connect youth to youth programs, resources, and local leaders through games, activities, food, and fun.
At the pop-ups, we plan to include:
- Interactive tables focused on youth resources, programs, and leadership opportunities
- Field Games
- Soccer with Fuerza
- Live DJ
- Raffle Prizes
- Taco Truck & Ice Cream (the first 50 people will receive free tacos or ice cream!)

Youth Empowerment Institute Summer Camp
|
|
Over the past few months, the Youth Action Network (YAN) has been working with the Youth Empowerment Institute (YEI) from the Everett Program to create a Youth Leadership Tech Camp at UCSC!
It will be a 4-day long day camp from Thursday, July 7th to Sunday, July 10th from 10:00-4:00 pm. The camp is open to incoming 7th-grade to 12th-grade students, including students who just graduated high school.
The camp will include:
- Tech workshops (graphic design, video editing, storyboarding)
- Leadership skills workshops
- Fun activities
- A campus tour of UCSC!
- Transportation, food, and snacks will also be provided

After students fill out the form, the YEI team will reach out to them with more information and the next steps of the camp.
The deadline to apply is Friday, July 1st

Celebrating the First Year of YAN!
|
|
We officially wrapped up the first year with the Youth Action Network Steering Committee!
This past year, the YAN Steering Committee worked on many projects to increase opportunities to amplify youth voices, access youth organizations and leadership programs, and partner with adult allies.
Check out the projects they were involved in over this past year:
- Supported the launch of the first YAN Youth & Adult Survey (survey results will be released in fall 2022!)
- Conducted Youth Participatory Action Research with UCSC
- Worked with YAN Jurisdictional Members across the county to influence and increase opportunities for youth voice & youth leadership
- Supported the first Children and Youth Bill of Rights for the City of Santa Cruz and created a Youth Liasion Position for the City
- Co-created and designed the Youth Action Network Pop-Up Events across Santa Cruz County to connect youth to programs and resources in a new and fun way
- Co-created a free Youth Leadership Camp with the Youth Empowerment Institute at UCSC
- Participated in Community Events and Teambuilding Opportunities
- And most importantly, built relationships with one another!

Thank you to everyone in the network that has partnered and worked with the YAN Steering Committee Team this past year! During the summer, we plan to wrap up the Pop-Up events and then prepare for projects and activities for the next school year!

Black Surf Santa Cruz Liberation Paddle Out:
June 19th 12:00-4:00pm
"The Liberation Paddle Out is a full day of fun and will include an indigenous land blessing, beach games, spoken word, live DJ on the beach (@fathertaj), a beach clean-up, paddle-out/paddle-out lessons, free equipment for BSSC members, and so much more."
