Luncheon Lecture: BAT 21
March 11
12 pm

On April 2, 1972, a U.S. Air Force jet, call sign “Bat 21,” was shot down by a North Vietnamese surface-to-air missile behind enemy lines. The lone surviving crew member, the navigator, ejected at 31,000 feet and was the subject of the largest and one of the most difficult rescue operations in Air Force history. A 1988 movie starring Gene Hackman and Danny Glover told parts of the secret rescue mission. John van Etten of Horton Bay didn’t need to see the movie. He was one of the rescue pilots portrayed in the film and has written his own book about the experience. He will provide his eyewitness account of the harrowing and costly rescue.

This program will be held via Zoom. Attendance is free, however pre-registration is required at https://www.ncmclifelonglearning.com/event-4628579/Registration.

Credit Union Expands to Give Back More
Giving back is what we stand for, which is why 4Front Credit Union is pleased to introduce the community to the newly established 4Front Foundation.

Founded in 2021, the Foundation aids nonprofits in providing services to the community and supports education through scholarship and financial literacy programs. The Foundation also works to create innovative programs for our members while increasing our outreach and impact in the community.

“4Front has contributed more than $700,000 in community investment since our inception in 2015 and we’re extremely proud of that,” said 4Front Foundation Executive Director, Rachel Hunter. “We’re always looking at how we can do more to help our communities and establishing the foundation will allow us to do just that.”

The Foundation focuses on three pillars of giving; scholarships, financial wellness, and grants. It will operate as a separate entity from 4Front Credit Union and in addition to the credit union’s current community investment program. Organizers plan to hold several fundraisers for the Foundation in 2022 with a goal of awarding those dollars in 2023. Click HERE for the full press release.

Pets of the Week - Carla and Winnie
Meet Carla! Carla is around 3-5 years of age and is a terrier mix. She is one that we got from the hoarding case in Traverse City and she is now ready to find her forever home! She has a very sweet and loving personality and likes to go on walks. She gets along with the other dogs and since she is smaller would probably do good with cats.

Meet Winnie! Winnie is about 18 months old and is the cutest dachshund. She is a little skittish when meeting new people and isn’t too fond of walks yet. With some patience and confidence boosters, Winnie’s true personality will shine! She gets along with the other dogs and would probably do good with cats.

If you are interested please fill out an application or call the Charlevoix Area Humane Society if you have recently filled out an application!
