Youth Action Network Research Meetings
The YAN Steering Committee has officially started its research team meetings with UCSC! The YAN Steering Committee will be working to identify a countywide community issue that is most important to them and conduct community-based research in partnership with UCSC undergraduate students from Professor Regina Langout's class.

This work is part of our larger partnership with UCSC to connect youth across Santa Cruz County to youth-participatory action research opportunities.

MLK Youth Day
Thank you to the Resource Center for Nonviolence and Santa Cruz NAACP for bringing youth and community organizations together to celebrate the importance of MLK's legacy during their MLK Youth Day Event on January 15th!

We had a wonderful time connecting with youth, families, and community partners. Thank you to all the amazing speakers where youth learned ways to amplify their voice and be part of creating solutions for a healthy thriving and safe Santa Cruz County for all.

We look forward to being at more community events like this in the future!
YAN Youth & Adult Ally Survey
*Deadline This Friday 1.28.22*
The youth survey is open to youth ages 11-21 throughout Santa County. The adult ally survey is open to adults who work with youth and/or adults looking to include more youth voices within programs and policies.

  • We are looking for adults to share their experiences and barriers of collaborating with youth.
  • And we are looking for youth to share their experiences of where they receive support, participation in after-school & out-of-school programs, and interest in learning leadership skills.

Youth and Adult survey responses will be anonymous and will help:
  • YAN increase opportunities for youth to share their voices
  • Help strengthen youth-adult partnerships
  • Youth to become involved in local decision making
  • YAN collect baseline data, which we can use to improve youth well-being through youth voice and leadership

We have also added additional raffle prizes if you complete the survey! Youth now have the opportunity to win a pizza party for their class or out-of-school program. Adults can now enter to win a $40 Target Gift Card!

Don't miss out! Fill out the survey by Friday 1/28!

Digital Nest Spring Community Engagement Opportunities!
NESTcorps is a community-based research program where youth will learn research skills while also learning about a specific social issue that is prevalent within our community. The spring session will be the 2nd phase where we take the research we conducted in the Fall, and create a plan of action to address the importance of having a culturally competent curriculum in schools, such as Ethnic Studies. At the end of the session, we will present the research and plan of action to leaders in the community, which will prepare us for the implementation stage during the Summer. We meet on Mondays and Wednesdays 4-6pm in person at the Watsonville Digital NEST, starting 1/31/22 to 4/13/22.

E-Unit is an events program where members plan and host an event that ties the NEST to the wider community. Past projects include organizing movie nights, art nights, open mics, and escape rooms. This spring our focus will be MUSIC, what will our next event be? It’s up to you! We meet on Tuesdays from 4-6 pm in person at the Watsonville Digital NEST, starting 2/1/22 to 4/12/22.
