UPMC St. Margaret Family Medicine Residency Program in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is recruiting for a full-time Family Medicine/Psychiatry-trained core faculty physician. This new faculty member will provide full spectrum Family Medicine/Psychiatry including outpatient medicine (including pediatrics, geriatrics and women’s health), behavioral health (psychiatric diagnostic evaluations, psychopharmacology consultation and treatment) and addiction medicine. This faculty member will be dedicated to caring for a medically underserved population and teaching/role modeling/mentoring for our FM/Psychiatry residents, as well as family medicine residents, medical students and fellows. Osteopathic Recognition Program

UPMC St. Margaret Family Medicine Residency Program in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is recruiting for a full-time Family Medicine Osteopathic core faculty physician for our Osteopathic Recognition program. This new Osteopathic faculty member will provide full spectrum Family Medicine including outpatient medicine (including pediatrics, geriatrics and women’s health), and teaching Osteopathic principles and practice (OPP), and Osteopathic manipulation therapy (OMT). This Osteopathic core faculty member will be dedicated to caring for a medically underserved population and teaching/role modeling/mentoring for our Osteopathic Recognition residents, as well as family medicine residents, medical students and fellows. Early bird registration ends this week!
Individual registration, registration for the residency fair, and registration for exhibits at the 2022 Annual Meeting is open and the early bird rates end July 31! The meeting will be held September 16-18, 2022, at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City in Arlington, VA. Please visit FMEC 2022 Annual Meeting for details and updates, including preconference information.
The application for Student Scholarships is also open, and you are invited to help the FMEC promote family medicine to medical students by supporting the FMEC Student Scholarship Campaign.

FMEC will celebrate Larry Bauer on September 15, 2022
Immediately prior to the Annual Meeting, the FMEC will honor and celebrate FMEC CEO Emeritus Larry Bauer at a dinner on Thursday, September 15 at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City. Become an ALSO Instructor
At the 2022 Annual Meeting, the FMEC will once again offer an Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) Instructor Course. It’s time to think now about who in your residency program needs to be trained as an instructor, and block off Thursday, September 15, 2022, in their calendar. Any clinician providing obstetrical care who has their ALSO Provider status is eligible to become an approved ALSO Instructor. This includes physicians as well as residents, registered nurses, midwives, nurse practitioners, paramedics, and physician assistants. Click the following link to register: FMEC 2022 Annual Meeting.
Limited additional double rooms available
The availability of doubles in the Hyatt Regency Crystal City has been limited, because many are held for the medical students that the FMEC brings on scholarship. Some residency programs have asked for access to more doubles for their attendees, so the FMEC has arranged for a small block of rooms at a nearby hotel. Each year, the FMEC provides 300 scholarships to students to attend the Annual Meeting, learn about family medicine, and visit residency program exhibits. Students attending our meeting become energized about family medicine, and many go on to family medicine or other primary care careers. Direct Primary Care Summit a huge success
The Direct Primary Care (DPC) Summit was held July 15-17, 2022, at the Sheraton Kansas City at Crown Center in Kansas City, MO. Over 300 physicians and others attended in person, and more than 60 registered for the livestreamed sessions. As one of the event’s hosts, the FMEC was pleased to see so many family physicians learn about this thriving model of practice and gain strategies to start and grow their businesses. The FMEC thanks the many sponsors and exhibitors and also our partners in putting on the event, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, and the DPC Alliance. Promote your residency through FMEC’s 2022 Hot Topics in Family Medicine
Hot Topics in Family Medicine gives the residencies who sign up a virtual spotlight, promoted by the FMEC throughout the region. Medical students love it because they can get up close and personal with a program they want to check out. Program directors love it because they can communicate with a group of students all at once, virtually. You can share aspects of your program that are especially strong or unique (i.e. delivering babies, procedures, wilderness medicine, corrections medicine, etc.). Hot Topics will start in August and run through October 27 on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings at 6 pm and 8 pm ET. Sign up for the day/time that works best for your faculty. Each program may reserve 1-2 sessions. Fees are $300 per session for residency programs participating in the 2022 Residency Fair at the FMEC Annual Meeting, and $600 for programs which are not participating in the 2022 Residency Fair. Get CME through the FMEC Geropalliative Care Series
The FMEC’s Geropalliative Care Series, an online CME course, is approved for 6.0 AAFP Prescribed Credits through February 1, 2023. The course focuses on patient-centered care of frail older adults in their last 2 to 5 years of life. The series will cover what is geropalliative care, frailty, delirium (understanding the importance and prevention), evidence-based medical prognostication, and the potential harms caused by continuing traditional care. The course is only $120 for FMEC members (only $50 for resident members), and you can view it at your leisure through February of 2023. Visit Geropalliative Care Series and register now.

Action Plan to Strengthen Primary Health Care – input needed
The Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health (OASH) is coordinating development of an initial Health and Human Services (HHS) Action Plan to Strengthen Primary Health Care. The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) consensus report Implementing High-Quality Primary Care: Rebuilding the Foundation of Health Care, will guide the development of the HHS Action Plan. OASH seeks input from members of the public via a Request for Information (RFI) about what the Federal government could do to strengthen primary health care in the United States. In particular, OASH seeks innovations, models, solutions to barriers, and possible HHS actions that may strengthen primary health care to promote health equity, reduce health disparities, and improve health care access and health outcomes. Responses to the RFI must be submitted by August 1. For additional information, see the Federal Register notice.
