2021 Virtual Winter Games
We may not be able to enjoy in-person competitions quite yet, but that isn't stopping us from having the annual Winter Games. Athletes, Unified partners, coaches and fans are invited to compete in the 2021 Virtual Winter Games from the comfort of their homes. The games feature events in snowshoeing, Nordic skiing (cross-country skiing) and walking. The virtual series will include fan-favorites like a virtual dance, talent show and social hour.

Series Schedule Will be Released: January 15

College Programs Find New Ways to
Connect with Athletes
During the fall, Iowa State University and Northwestern College created unique opportunities to interact with and show support for Special Olympics Iowa athletes. Northwestern College hosted three virtual Unified activity nights, while Iowa State University hosted their second virtual walking fundraiser, Striding with Special Olympics. Unified partners from both institutions can't wait to meet the athletes in person!
Team Fit: New Year, Healthy Me
We are four days into the 8-week Team Fit: New Year, Healthy Me training program, and already working towards achieving those 2021 health, fitness and sports goals! The program created Unified communities that are helping participants stay motivated as they work through daily focused activities. Each day's activity focuses on an aspect of leading a healthy life and preparing for upcoming sports seasons.

12 Days of Special Olympics Iowa
Last month we prepared for the holidays and the end of the year with the 12 Days of Special Olympics Iowa competition and virtual activities. The competition saw over 100 athletes, coaches, fans and Unified partners compete in bocce, cycling and fitness events. Virtual activities ran from December 7 to December 18. Caroling, a virtual dance, a day-long scavenger hunt and cooking are just a few of the activities individuals participated in.
