Lakeway Indoor Garage Sale Returns This Weekend
The Activity Center will be hosting another Indoor Garage sale tomorrow, September 7, from 8:00 a.m to noon. This unique event is fun for collectors, families and especially bargain hunters. You will find everything from children's clothing, furniture and toys; to housewares, collectibles, tools and much more! There is no admission fee, but the Activity Center gladly accepts donations of non-perishable or canned food items in the lobby. These items will go to local food banks and charities.

The last Indoor Garage Sale for the year is scheduled on October 19. Space is limited for sellers and Lakeway Activity Center members get to sign up early. The 10' x 10' space fee is $25 for Activity Center members and $35 for non-members. This fee includes one 6 foot table and 2 chairs.

Monthly Update from The Police Department
The Police Department is committed to exceptional, innovative and equitable police services for the community. Last month (August), 29 investigations were assigned to Detectives, 15 arrests were made, 24 collisions were reported to TxDOT and 404 traffic citations were issued. The top traffic citations included speeding and expired registration. With school now in session, The Lakeway Police Department would also like to remind all drivers and pedestrians to be careful. Keeping children safe is a top priority for everyone in our community and reviewing important safety information can prevent accidents. Please take a moment to read about crosswalks, stopping for school buses, speed limits and traffic signs by f ollowing this link.

Big Band Bash: Dance the night away at Big Band Bash every second Monday of the month from 8 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. As always, the Republic of Texas Band will be there to play your favorite tunes.
 
Blood Drive: Beat the heat and make a life saving donation at the Lakeway Community Blood Drive on Saturday, September 21 from 8:00 a.m. to noon. To schedule an appointment, visit weareblood.org and use the Group Code A197 or contact the drive coordinators at [email protected] .

Wildlife in Travis County: Want to learn about the wonderful animals that we share space with in Lakeway? Please join the City of Austin/Travis County Animal Services for a presentation about how to coexist with wildlife on October 12 at 10:30 a.m. or October 17 at 6:30 p.m.

NEW: Gear Up for the Reality Education for Drivers Program

Lakeway Municipal Court is now offering young drivers with traffic citations an opportunity to enroll in Baylor Scott & White Medical Center McLane’s Children’s Hospital (Temple, Texas) Reality Education for Drivers (RED) Program.

This FREE one day program is offered on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. It focuses on driving SECURE (wear your seatbelt!), SILENT (free of distractions like cell phones) and SOBER (no alcohol or drug use while driving). 

The course includes class discussions, multimedia presentations, hands on activities and a “behind the scenes” tour of the hospital’s state of the art trauma center.

NEW: The Columbia Space Shuttle Disaster Presentation

On October 22 at 7:00 p.m. at the Activity Center, USMC [ret] Lt. General JD "Beak" Howell will present "Lessons in Leadership: The Columbia Space Shuttle Disaster." His presentation will weave together riveting stories from his experiences as Director of the Johnson Space Center the day Columbia went down, the lessons he learned leading over 80,000 Marines and Sailors during his distinguished Marine Corps career and his experiences as a senior leader to the public and private sectors. This free and informative event is brought to you by the Lakeway Heritage Committee. The presentation continues the NASA theme this year, which included the 50th Anniversary of the moon landing celebrated during the city's 4th of July celebration.
