Message from the Head of School
COVID-19 Response Plan: Masking Policy Update
Dear Summit Community,

With Spring Break around the corner, we are writing to inform you of our ongoing evaluation of The Summit’s COVID-19 response plan. The Crisis Response team continues to monitor national (CDC’s updated guidance, AAP’s updated guidance) and local (Springfield-Greene County Health Department) developments.

With positive cases within our school and local community on the decline as well as the advising that populations with low or medium transmission rates may remove masks, The Crisis Response team has approved the following policy amendment.

Beginning on Monday, March 28, 2022, student, staff, and visitor masking at The Summit will be optional. All students and staff should bring a face mask with them to school each day for indoor activities where physical distance of three feet or greater cannot be maintained.

Any change to our policy would not go into effect until Monday, March 28th, one week after our return from spring break to gauge any potential spike in transmission following the extended break.

The Crisis Response team will continue to monitor COVID-19 developments in the community and on campus in the week following Spring Break providing updates on policy amendments as necessary.

We remain grateful to each of our Summit families for joining us in placing student, faculty, and staff health and wellbeing at the forefront of our decision making. As we approach the latter portion of the academic year, we thank you for your continued partnership. We look forward to seeing many of you tonight at our annual Summit gala and wish you all a relaxing Spring Break.

With gratitude and appreciation,

Dr. Katie Heet
Head of School

Gala
Support Enhanced Safety & Security at The Summit
Thank you to everyone who attended the Gala and to all those who bid on items both at The Veridian and at home on their mobile devices. We were overwhelmed by the amount of support shown at this event! Even though the Gala is technically over, it's still not too late to make an impact on our special appeal.

This year’s special appeal is focused on increased safety enhancements. The Summit is growing! With that growth, comes the exciting opportunity to expand into new classroom spaces within our building and further plans for more campus infill in the near future. Safety and security enhancements in these new spaces would include expanding our intercom system, installation of additional cameras and panic buttons, and the application of security window film.

Watch the video above, created by Summit parent and documentarian, Joe Dull with Daringly Dull, to learn more about our special appeal, "Safety In Our School," and use the link to make your donation today!

In addition to her strong showing at the Science Olympiad tournament, Summit seventh grader Gracelyn R. also took 2nd Place in National History Day!

Gracelyn presented her exhibit, “Treaty of Paris and Treaty of Versailles Comparison” at Missouri State’s regional National History Day competition last Friday. She will be advancing to the virtual state competition in April.

If you see Gracelyn, ask her about her impressive research and thesis! She has worked diligently to hone in her skills as a historian.

Student to Compete on National Cooking Show
From the Springfield News-Leader:

A Springfield cooking phenom will appear on the eighth season of MasterChef Junior, a TV cooking competition from Gordon Ramsay.

Molly Leighninger, a seventh grader at the Summit Preparatory School in Springfield, will appear on the new season.

She is a veteran of cooking competitions and has appeared on the Steve Harvey Show and cooked with Rachel Ray, among others.

"I just love cooking, in general. It's another way to be creative and to show that you can really do anything," Molly told the News-Leader in October. "When you look back on it, you're like, 'Wow, I made that dish.'"

The premier episode "Punch and Munch" will debut March 17 on Fox.
