UPDATES ON OUR MINISTRIES
CHILDREN'S MINISTRY
Lent at Home for Families
Lent is a time for self-reflection and began on Ash Wednesday, March 2. During Lent, we offer prayers, we fast or sacrifice by giving up something and we give through alms or service to others.

Children’s Ministry delivered “Lent at Home” bags filled with activities for families to do together during the 40 days. In addition, families can put together a “Stations of the Cross” devotional book that can be used during Holy Week.

If you did not receive a bag and are interested in picking one up from the church office, please email Ashley Pindell, ashley@standrewkc.org.

Youth Confirmation Retreat

“Confirmation is the rite in which we express a mature commitment to Christ, and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by a bishop” (from “The Catechism,” Book of Common Prayer, 860)

This spring St. Andrew's will be offering a one day confirmation retreat for youth desiring to be confirmed. The one day retreat replaces the 6 week confirmation class series we have offered in the past.

The retreat was originally scheduled for Saturday, April 2 but it will need to be rescheduled. Stay tuned for the new retreat date.

Commonly Asked Questions about Youth Confirmation
What is the recommended age for a child to be confirmed?
  • The recommended age is students who are in 8th grade and older. Confirmation is about a person making an adult decision to commit oneself to Christ and the Episcopal church. This decision is not to be taken lightly, and it requires a person to think seriously and intentionally about what they are committing themselves to. Older kids often seem to get more out of their confirmation class experience.  That being said, we have had kids in 6th and 7th grade who have participated in confirmation classes and have done very well. Bottom line, the best age for your child is what you and your child decide.

What if my child has an activity during the retreat that he/she can’t miss?
  • We understand that kids have many activities these days and finding a way to fit all of kids activities in is a challenge.
  • We would prefer your child not miss any of the retreat however if your child has to miss an hour or an hour and a half, we understand. That being said, this is truly not our preference and we hope every effort is made to have your child there the entire day.

When does the actual confirmation service take place?
  • The confirmation service will take place at St. Andrew’s on Sunday, November 20 which is St. Andrew’s Sunday.

If you have any questions about confirmation, please reach out to me via email at jean@standrewkc.org or cell phone at 816-520-3064.
