Our vision is to have a community where no kittens are born wild on the street, no cat capable of living in a home is lacking one, and no feral cats are wanting for food, water, and appropriate care and concern.

GIVING TUESDAY IS NOVEMBER 30TH!
November 30th is #GivingTuesday and we need your help! 100% of your donation on this day will help our Cat Crisis Fund!
It's been an adventurous, yet overwhelming 2021. We've broken records with 735 spay/neuters in July and rescued cats off the streets including 42 cats in a hoarding situation. Our rescue efforts and calls to our helpline have dramatically increased while cat intake reached max capacity.
Funding to care and nurture these cats grew scarce despite our adoption rates increasing compared to 2020. We hope you and your cats mark your calendars for this day and help us reach our goal! Details on how to give coming out soon.

Due to an increase in cost of materials, TruCatch notified us of a need to increase prices on their traps and equipment. Because we are a TruCatch distributor, we get a bulk order discount and are happy to offer the traps at a slightly cheaper rate than the Trucatch website. Our spay/neuter clinics prefer TruCatch traps as they are rated the most humane and reliable. New prices are listed below. These prices are effective now and are for loan deposits as well as purchase.

Cat of the month: Little Suzie
We are excited to introduce Little Suzi, who is not so little anymore! She's full of personality with a purrfect blend of sweetness and sass to keep you well-loved and entertained. Cuddling in bed and having her ears and face massaged is her favorite pass time. Little Suzie will always let you know when she needs some love and attention by being vocal and tapping you with her paw. She would do well with a family with other cats, but would need some time warming up to dogs.
Little Suzie is 3 years old and has been in our foster program for most of her life. She knows the right family is just around the corner and will be worth the wait!

SAFCC Broadens Horizons With TNR Classes
A local Windcrest Animal Care Officer, Natalie Burgett, reached out to us to provide a TNR Class for their community to educate residents on the importance of spay and neuter.
Yvonne and Natalie worked together on the class, which was a success with 25 attentive attendees, each receiving a cat bags and educational handouts. Marte,
our board member who lives in Windcrest, was there to help answer any questions.
We are scheduled to present another TNR class to Windcrest in March 2022!

Volunteer Appreciation Open House
As an all volunteer organization, SAFCC's board members hosted a volunteer appreciation open house! This special occasion was created to recognize the continuous efforts all our volunteers do to help our community cats. All volunteers were given SAFCC mugs, thank you cards, and entered into a raffle for additional prizes! It was a fun and Covid safe event that would not have been possible without our wonderful team!

ONE MONTH LATER: THE SOMERSET CATS
A month ago our organization found itself involved in a hoarder case. This is not something we normally get involved in, but we are all passionate about ensuring all nine lives are the best they can be for our feline friends.
The hearts of our volunteers called them to step in and help the 42 cats that were left to fend for themselves after their caretaker unexpectedly passed away.
Somerset reached out to us asking for help. We were informed that Somerset was not able to keep these cats overnight or even a few days. These cats were at high risk of euthanasia if they could not find immediate placement. Our determined volunteers helped get the cats safely evacuated and many needed urgent medical care. Many were underweight, balding, and dehydrated.
We will be sharing how some of these cats are doing a month later with the help of our fosters, and our Cat Crisis Fund that helped us get the medical attention they desperately needed.
Pictured above is Giles. When we met him, we instantly knew he needed medical attention. Not only was he severely emaciated, the skin on Giles' back was dead. About 6 inches of it turned to scab and fell off, but Giles is a beautiful and healthy boy now! Below is a picture of Giles now!
As we continue to nurse these cats back to health, we have the intent to adopt them all into furrever homes.
Thank you to our partners who graciously helped by taking in some of the Somerset cats:
- 5 cats were placed with ADL
- 2 kittens were placed with KittensNW
- 2 cats went to Animal Welfare Society of Bandera County (microchipped from them)
- 4 cats were placed with Helotes Humane Society

- In Ireland they signal good luck!
- In Scotland they signal prosperity!
- In Japan it’s believed a single woman with black cats will attract more suitors!
- Sailors brought black cats onto their ships for good luck & to ensure a safe trip home!
- In Great Britain they are given as wedding gifts to bring good luck & happiness to the bride!
- Black cats tend to be male!
