Greetings!
We have a couple of poets amongst us and I would like to share there December works:
Christmas 2020
It won't seem right this year,
The food, the gathering, the people in our homes.
It won't seem right this year,
There will be no crowded stores, no Black Friday sales,
No kids sitting on Santa's lap.
It won't seem right this year,
There will be no Christmas parades,
no churches filled with choirs being heard down the streets,
of tiny towns everywhere.
It won't be right this year,
but the Christ Child will still come,
His manger will stay as sweet.
The stars will still shine in he deep dark, in wonder.
And Mary and Joseph will still knell in the dry straw across the world.
And the Christ Child's arms will still reach wide, to be embraced or, to embrace us all.
And so it is,
Still a very Merry Christmas

Ode to a Virus
This year will be known as the year we met covid 19.
Of all of my 80, this year is the strangest I’ve seen.
Now we must wear a mask and we dare not approach anyone.
But we’ll all feel much better tomorrow when this year is done.
We don’t go to restaurants that’s too many folks in one room.
And to have human contact, for business or pleasure, we zoom.
Our schools and our churches have had to find new ways to run.
But we’ll all feel much better tomorrow when this year is done.
Our nation’s divided on issues like never before.
And kindness and justice are things that we seem to ignore.
I am hopeful of change in the hands of Joseph Biden.
And we’ll all feel much better tomorrow when this year is done.
The death toll keeps rising, charts show an increasing slope.
But talk of a vaccine by Spring gives us reason to hope.
We can’t say it now, but by then we might just say “we’ve won”.
Yes, we’ll all feel much better tomorrow when this year is done.

Have you heard about South Shore Quilters? |
|
|
You may or may not be familiar with a community program
called South Shore Quilters. We are a group of volunteers from the local area and beyond--who usually meet on Wednesday mornings in the Fellowship Hall of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Immanuel has been generous in allowing us a place to work and to store the finished quilts until they are distributed to local and far-flung areas where a warm quilt is needed.
The South Shore Quilters organization has been meeting for over 40 years. We work with fabric and supplies which have been donated by individuals and groups, and we have produced and donated thousands of quilts during that time—this year alone we’ve made about 300. We are so thankful for those who have donated to our program.
To give you an idea of where we have donated quilts, here is a list of many of them:
· Northern Lights Health Care Center in Washburn
· Birch Haven North Assisted Living in Washburn
· Birth Haven Senior Living Community in Ashland
· Red Cliff Community Health Center
· New Day Advocacy Center in Ashland
· Lutheran World Relief (national and international)
· Various organizations receive a quilt from us to use for their raffles/fundraisers

Our thanks to ALL who planned, recorded, edited and participated in producing the wonderful Christmas Eve Service and Greetings videos. We were amazed at the quality of the recording and the genuineness of everyone's presentations. We found it to be a very moving service of song, story, scripture and sermon. What a great idea to include us all during this time of separation. A special thanks to Pastor Mary for her organizing and encouragement as well as the time she so willingly gave to this project. It was indeed our Christmas highlight!
May 2021 build on these new ways of bringing us together.

"To Repair Our Lives" beginning January 2021
|
|
Seasonal creative explorations of healing and repair with Regina -
Farmer, Storyteller/Dancer, Creative Spirituality, Woman and Mother of color in a beautiful imperiled world.
So much calls for repair: my own heart, the histories of my people and my nation, hunger and displacement, oceans and climate, the lives of my sons - their brown skin making them targets.
This is beyond me -- too big... But holding the soil in my hands as we work to repair the small patch of earth upon which we grow food -- mixing in compost and care -- makes repair touchable. Possible. And this tiny participation in the earth's life repairs me. Repairs my faith. Repairs my walk in this world.
I hope my multi-faceted reflections will help you find your own 'handful of soil' which helps you understand, imagine, and step into your own rich ways of healing.
These online expressions and experiences, and touchable gifts are invitations to repair our lives - to be nourished and healed; to be nourishers and healers.
