Create some space for

rest

Growing up, I was always fascinated with God’s decision to rest after creating things for six days. What did God do when resting? Wasn’t God needed in caring for creation? If God was supposed to love us all the time and always hear and answer our prayers, what happened when God was resting? My young mind could already see the contradictions in Scripture, wanting to poke at them. ”

Shifting the Spotlight: Perspectives from

the Rev. Dr. Otis Moss III

Being a white ally means playing a supporting role as BIPOC people take center stage. During this historic shift, how can white Christians embrace roles where they cease to be the stars of the film but are instead cast as extras – people whose advancement of the plot is good but not essential to the future? And how can BIPOC people regain agency and become the leaders they are meant to be?

The LoI is a much simpler process, giving Churchwide staff the opportunity to offer feedback to applicants.

  • Letter of inquiry review period: June – July
  • Response to the letter of inquiry (decline or accept): July 31
  • Invited applicants to complete grant application in ELCA GrantMaker: Aug. 1-31
  • Review and correspondence between ELCA World Hunger staff and grant applicants on proposal: August – November
  • Award notifications shared to applicants: November
  • Grant agreements signed and publicly announced: February 2024
  • 2024 Domestic Hunger new grants start date: March 1

ELCA Domestic Hunger Grants are awarded to ELCA congregations or organizations, or to other nonprofits with significant connections to ELCA congrgations.
