Governor Cuomo has announced that restaurant workers will now be eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine if their local health department agrees. Specifically, the state has granted localities the flexibility to add restaurant workers to the 1b vaccine prioritization group, provided that the local vaccine supply is sufficient.
NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio has been pushing for this change, and with federal vaccine supply to the states set to increase over the next three weeks, we expect that NYC will add restaurant workers to the 1b group imminently.
This is a welcome announcement for restaurant workers, particularly as restaurants prepare to reopen for indoor dining on February 14, 2021.
