PTA Student Represents LaGuardia at Statewide Assembly

Just weeks before graduating from LaGuardia’s Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program, Meredith DeVore was elected to represent students at the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) New York Chapter Delegate Assembly. At the annual assembly, held in Saratoga Springs, NY, Meredith was an active participant while in her role as a student delegate. The APTA New York Assembly is the highest policy making body of the statewide Chapter and consists of voting delegates (DPTs and PTAs from each District) and nonvoting delegates (Executive Committee, Speaker of the Assembly, Chief Delegate and student/student affiliate delegates). Meredith is pictured with Dr. Clarence Chan, PTA professor and program director at LaGuardia.

Tips to Prevent Theft

Public Safety has received reports of vehicles parked in the vicinity of the college being broken into. In an effort to increase security and help prevent vehicle break-ins, Public Safety is working with the NYPD to increase patrols in the area. Public Safety is asking the LaGuardia community to be extra vigilant of your surroundings and to report any suspicious activities. Incidents can be reported to Public Safety by calling 718-482-5555 and with the NYPD by calling 911.

Tips to help prevent vehicle break-ins:

  • Lock your doors and close all windows.
  • Do not leave items in your vehicle that can be seen from the outside.
  • Conceal all electronics and accessories, spare change, sunglasses, bags, etc.
  • Put items you want hidden in the trunk of your vehicle before you arrive at your destination.
  • Park in visible areas.
  • Engage your car alarm.

HUMAN RESOURCES AND PERSONNEL UPDATES

HRAssist – LaGuardia’s New Automated Time & Leave System/Attendance Tracker

The Human Resources Department is in the process of launching HRAssist, the new automated time and leave system/attendance tracker for all full-time employees. HRAssist will replace the manual paper process used for full-time employees. The implementation and utilization of HRAssist will significantly improve timekeeping and compliance efficiencies across the College. Notably, eight other CUNY campuses and Central Office are currently using HRAssist.

HRAssist Benefits

  • Dedicated HR portal uses a database to save time and leave information and employee timesheets.
  • Single solution allows centralizing HR data, i.e., employee attendance, scheduling, leave requests, etc.
  • Improves transparency of time and leave management for managers and employees.
  • Electronic tracking of accruals/leave balances reduces errors in balances and payroll entries.
  • Electronic notification of leave requests and approvals for faster responses.

Training

  • HRAssist training is being conducted in two phases. HR is currently facilitating comprehensive training sessions for departmental supervisors and managers who oversee full-time staff. Then supervisors and managers will train their full-time staff.

Launch Dates

  • HRAssist is scheduled to go live and be available for full-time Civil Service employees on Sunday, August 6 and for all full-time PSC, ECPs, Classified Managerial on Sunday, August 13.

Next Steps

  • Please look out for future HR emails and Campus Update notifications which will provide you with more information about HRAssist, including the schedule of training sessions for supervisors and managers, and the availability of a comprehensive HRAssist website page featuring user manuals, how-to videos, FAQs, and much more.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

Reporting Technology Issues and Spam Emails

Technology Issues

  • Having to rely heavily on technology daily, it’s likely that we will encounter a related issue. Whenever you have any technology related problems, whether it’s with apps like CUNYfirst, Outlook, or the Faculty & Staff Portal, etc., or with any network services or computer equipment, the fastest and best way to get help is to contact the IT HelpDesk by opening a ticket through the Faculty & Staff Portal https://fsp.laguardia.edu, or by calling 718-482-6134. Please do not forward an email request to the IT distribution list, to any other College email list, or to individuals at the College which will delay getting help to you.

Spam Emails

  • With the ongoing increase in spam emails globally, any of us may have the misfortune of receiving a spam email in our LaGuardia Outlook inbox. The safest, fastest and best way to handle spam you receive is to notify the IT HelpDesk by forwarding the original spam email to SPAM@lagcc.cuny.edu. As soon as IT learns about a spam email, it will delete the email from all email boxes and block the sender.
  • After you forward the spam email to our spam email address, delete it immediately. Please do not forward the spam email to the IT distribution list, to other College email lists, or to individuals at the College. If you forward the spam email to anyone in the College, the risk for overcoming cybersecurity measures and increasing the damage the email can cause will grow significantly.
  • In addition, do not reply to the spam email or click on any links or try to unsubscribe. If there is a phone number listed in the email, do not call or send a text to the number. Please let your colleagues and students know about the scam you’ve received.
