Dear Summit Academy Families:
While we share in the obvious disappointment of Governor Beshear’s executive order (EO) to cease in-person instruction effective Monday, November 23, we also share in the desire to keep our school and greater communities safe and healthy. Our faculty and staff greatly miss seeing our students on campus. We miss their energy and their personalities.
We also appreciate all of the support and constructive feedback we have received from you. We fully understand that there is no one right answer to satisfy everyone’s beliefs and wishes for their child’s education at this time. As school leadership, it is our goal to uphold the mission of our school and to assist our team in providing a transformative educational experience in a safe, healthy and nurturing environment. Be it in-person or remotely, our goal is to meet the educational, social, and emotional needs of our students.
Virus mitigation efforts require the support of our entire state, including our local and our own school community. While these steps are not always easy, we are hopeful we will help reduce the spread of COVID-19. We also are hopeful that we can resume in-person instruction quickly once cases decline.
We ask that your family continue to practice social distancing, mask wearing and hand sanitization. Let’s do our best to be part of the solution in the fight to curb the alarming increase in COVID-19 cases around the state and nationally.
Yesterday’s EO states that all schools (K-12), public and private, must move to remote or virtual instruction. Unlike previous state recommendations, we simply do not have the option of resuming in-person instruction as previously planned. If Jefferson County is out of the Red Zone by Monday, December 7, we have the ability for K-5 grades to return to campus. Grades 6-12 will still be mandated to learn remotely. If Jefferson County remains in the Red Zone, the first available option for in-person instruction will be after the holidays on our regularly scheduled return date of Tuesday, January 5.
