Principal's Message

Parent/Teacher Conferences concluded last evening. I hope you had a positive and productive experience and left fully informed of your child’s progress. It is always nice to have parents in the building and I enjoyed having the opportunity to see so many of you. Looking ahead, I hope you have a wonderful fall break!

When we return from fall break, we will have transitioned to our winter uniform. Students in grades KDG-4 will no longer be able to wear shorts until March 1. However, I am excited to announce that students in grades 5-8 will now be allowed to wear shorts throughout the entire school year!

This request was brought forward as part of a junior high Social Studies project. Students made a formal request to me, citing specific reasons why they should be allowed to wear shorts throughout the year. They then surveyed students and staff members to seek their input. The staff unanimously voted in favor of this proposal. Along with this, we will spend the rest of the year evaluating our entire uniform policy. A committee of teachers and school administration has been assembled to lead this process. They will make a formal presentation to the Education Board by the conclusion of the school year for any changes going into next school year.

Also, right after fall break, Guardian Angels will host a technology safety presentation on Thursday, November 4. This program is designed for students in grades 6-8 and will be led by Stephen Smith. Stephen is a leader throughout Cincinnati on this topic and presents to schools throughout the local area and beyond. Here is a link to Stephen’s website which has many valuable resources. A virtual parent presentation will be sent next week, as well. I strongly encourage all parents to view this presentation. November 4th will be a technology-free day at GA and we will ask that this continues through the home that evening.

Finally, I would like to express tremendous gratitude to our PTA, especially Liz McElroy, Bridget Fesenmeier, and Becky Tiefenbach, for their work in the installation of our new playground! It looks great and students love playing on it already. Please join me in thanking PTA for their extensive work in this large project! Students at GA will benefit from the dedication of our PTA for many years ahead.

God bless,

Corey Stoops

Mission PSO Collecting Halloween Candy Next Week

The Guardian Angels Mission PSO will be collecting candy for the children of the St. Bernard School on Standing Rock Indian Reservation. The students at the school and other boys and girls who live on the reservation, along with the elders look forward to receiving the boxes of candy every year. It is their biggest treat each year!

Students should bring in their extra Halloween Candy to school Tuesday, November 2 - Friday, November 5.

Picture Retakes Offered November 8th

Picture retakes will take place on Monday, November 8th. Students requesting a retake should simply return the original pictures on November 8th and the photographer will resubmit your order with the new image. Students who missed our September picture day, can also order online at mylifetouch.com - school code is EVTPXJ2RD. Any student who is having his/her picture taken on this day, may come out of uniform, but must follow the out of uniform guidelines stated in the Guardian Angels School Handbook.

Guardian Angels Will Honor Our Veterans On November 11th

Veterans are invited to attend a prayer service celebration on Thursday, November 11th. Father David Sunberg will lead this service beginning at 1:00pm in the Church. RSVPs are due by TODAY - Wednesday, October 27th. To RSVP, click here.

We are asking for only veterans to attend; parents accompanying a veteran may attend and should be included in the RSVP. We are asking other parents to not attend in-person to allow more room in the church for students. We will stream this celebration for anyone to view who cannot attend in-person. Due to COVID precautions, there will be no reception before this event as there has been in previous year.

Cafeteria Volunteers Needed

Calling all parents, grandparents and other SafeParish trained volunteers! We are still in need a few helping hands in the cafeteria over the next few weeks. We have consistently had 1 volunteer per day, but the increased social distancing measures have caused us to add more tables in the cafeteria. It would be tremendously helpful to have 2 volunteers per day to keep up with increased cleaning and monitoring of our angels at lunchtime. Can you spare time in your day to help? If you are able to help out, sign-up here.

Just a reminder: All volunteers must have transferred or be newly trained through SafeParish.

Lunch Accounts & Venmo Payments

If you have multiple children who buy lunch at school and want to avoid paying multiple service fees per account, please remember that you can pay a lump sum via Venmo to Collette Thompson @Kaldis. You would simply need to specify each child’s account that you would like to divide the lump sum for in the “What’s it for” line when making your Venmo payment. You will receive a message back from Kaldi’s when your Venmo payment has been applied accordingly.

More information about the lunch program, including a link to the menu, is below in the Reminders section.

Fathers Team Meeting This Friday

GA Fathers, join us this Friday at 6:05am in Conference Room B (next to the undercroft) as we discuss a subject that is meaningful for dad’s. This week’s topic: Pushing Back on the Culture as Much as it is Pushing Down on Us. Too often, we don’t realize how much the culture is leading us astray. We need to develop a plan to stop our susceptibility and refocus our priorities on what really matters. Come solo, or better yet, bring a friend! Mark your calendars to join us this Friday in person or optionally join via Zoom. Contact us at [email protected] for the zoom information.

Christian Service Program - Faith in Action

The purpose of the Christian Service Program is to enhance the religion curriculum at Guardian Angels Church. It is the duty of all Christians to reach out in service to those around them. Christ asks us to be His hands and feet on earth, keeping His mission of reaching out to those in need alive. The students will complete their service within the following settings: at home, the parish community/school and the community at-large. This outreach may be completed individually, with a partner, or in a group.

This program will focus more on the meaning of the actual service opportunities rather than completing a prescribed amount of time. You will choose activities for each component—service to your family, service to your school/parish and service to the poor and vulnerable in our community. There is no minimum requirement of hours to complete. Grades 1-3 are required to complete at least 2 activities for each component; grades 4-8 at least 3 for each. You are certainly encouraged to complete more! See your Religion teacher, Mrs. Froehlich, or the parish website for a list of suggested activities and the log sheet.

Questions? Contact Kay Froehlich, Director of Religious Education, for more information.
